Its not everyday you receive an invitation to the RAAF base
at Williamtown for lunch.
The Joint Health Unit at RAAF Williamtown held a Paella Lunch to Raise Funds for Aussie Heroes on Friday 2 November.
Jill A and Robyn W were honoured to represent Aussie Heroes
at a special luncheon to receive a
donation from various fund raising activities by RAAF personnel. We were given
a tour of the medical facility, met some recipients, met some ADF personnel who
will be deployed in the future and some charming ladies who are wanting to join
Jan Marree’s sewing army.
The lunch area was decorated with a few AHQ and laundry
bags, and a delicious paella plate was put in front of us. We thanked them
profusely for the cheque and they thanked us too.
The message received was that AHQ means a lot to them. Receiving boxes from us
is eagerly anticipated, quilts and laundry bags are received with enthusiasm
and that joy is shared amongst their mates.
Quiltmakers’ names are remembered and they are talked about with pride.
There is more to giving and receiving a parcel from AHQ; besides them being a
great morale booster whilst our troops are deployed overseas, there is a
connection with strangers that epitomises the Aussie spirit.
Keep sewing everyone
.....
Thanks Robyn.
Till next time... keep spreading the word and happy stitching!
Jan-Maree xx
