At our Annual Thank You Dinner last year and again this year, we auctioned the right to commission an Aussie Hero Quilt.
Last year's quilt was winner was none other than our own Chief Petty Officer, Cath, not only a recipient but a quilter and one of our best advocates I am sure.
Last weekend I joined Cath at her local RSL Sub-Branch Branxton to attend their Remembrance Day Service and their 95th Anniversary Lunch.
The day before Cath had presented the quilt to the Sub-Branch President and on Remembrance Day the quilt was hung in pride of place for all the guests at the luncheon to enjoy.
The quilt, beautifully made by Sandy C of the Coffs Harbour Sewing Team, features the three tri-service colours with silhouettes of a female sailor, along with a male soldier and airman.
The crest at the bottom features the Wattle, a Rose, a Leek, a Clover and the Thistle as a nod to the historic connection of the RSL to Australian, England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. This panel was beautifully hand painted by Sandy and all was set on a foundation of Australia's colours of green and gold.
Brian said on the day that this quilt is now one of the Sub-Branches treasured possessions.
BZ Chief Petty Officer Cath and a huge thank you to all at the Sub Branch for making me so welcome on the day.
Till next time... keep spreading the word and happy stitching!
Jan-Maree xx
