Sydney to Hobart..... GAME ON..... DOWN UNDER......

When I was still living at home with my parents in Perth, it was a Boxing Day ritual to grab a slice of Christmas cake, or maybe some leftover pavlova and sit down in front of the TV to watch the start of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race!   I will do it now, minus the fruit cake (no promises re the Pav) but living in Sydney it is a lunch time event and not a breakfast one.

This year I will be glued to the screen again, but with even more purpose as this year there are two special boats racing!

As part of the Invictus Games we have the GAME ON team and the DOWN UNDER team!

More details can be found here

Both teams are made up of wounded, injured or ill veterans.  GAME ON is a British team and, of course, DOWN UNDER is an Aussie team.  Below is the Aussie Team.

Of course we could not let them hit the high seas without a bit of Aussie Heroes support so on Friday last week one of the Aussies collected quilts and laundry bags for the Aussie team, and as a special good will gesture, laundry bags for the British team.

These are the bags given to the British team.

Most of these laundry bags were made by Sue M and the Maitland Patchwork and Quilting Group.  If you recognise one you made, please let me know.

This laundry bag was made by Jess L, a 14 year old star.

One of the Aussies has already sent
me a pic of their quilt onboard ready to go...

These Quilts and bags were given to the Down Under Team.

I am sorry but I did not have time to pull all the letters out of these bags to check who made them so forgive me for not being able to name all the makers.  A bunch of them came from the Maitland Patchwork and Quilters and others from various makers.

This bag below was made by Jess L, a 14 year old star!

There was also a special little mascot (made by Kerri B) that will accompany the Down Under team.

Don't forget more details can be found here

Check it out and cheer them on with me on the 26th!!!

Till next time... keep spreading the word and happy stitching!
