BLOCKS OF THE MONTH

Last week, a group of friends from the Coffs Harbour Sewing Team, visited the Canberra Quilt Show.  What a great Show displaying SO much talent!  We also visited Galleries and exciting venues in Canberra including the Australian War Memorial.  What an amazing place.  I will spend
more time there on my next visit to Canberra.

A highlight was viewing the Changi Quilt, made by women interned in Changi Prison in WW2.

Throughout history, quilts have been used to secretly transmit messages.  The women who
made this quilt, sent messages and information in their work, to the men in another camp.
It is a fragile textile piece, maintained in dim light, so my pictures are not clear.

The quilts we make today for our deployed Aussie Heroes, don't contain secret messages
but are made with love and respect to honour them in their Service.

"The freedom of the masses is bought by the Sacrifice of the few"

THANK YOU

to all those who make Blocks of the Month to make these quilts.
