HMAS Darwin...... 33 years coming to a close

Tonight is a bittersweet night for the crew on board HMAS Darwin.   It is her last night at sea and tomorrow, for the very last time, HMAS DARWIN will conduct her final entry into Sydney  following 33 years at sea in service of her country.  The following is taken from her Facebook page.
You can watch DARWIN's final entry from a number of Harbour vantage points including Mrs Macquarie's Chair. Details below. Hope to see you there!

DARWIN will enter the heads at 0900 in Company with the newest Ship in the Fleet, HMAS HOBART.

HOBART will then escort DARWIN down past Bradley's head, where HMA Ships CANBERRA and ANZAC will be waiting to greet DARWIN.

After exchanging ceremonial DARWIN will fire a 7 Gun Salute, which will be returned by HMAS KUTTABUL, before the Ship berths alongside Fleet Base East at 1000.

Today several of HMAS Darwin's former Commanding Officers joined the ship and were presented with the laundry bags we made them as a surprise.  Among the former CO's is CAPT Terry Morrison, who commanded HMAS Darwin when they deployed for the first time with Aussie Hero's Support.

Lynn was delighted to have the opportunity to make his personalised Laundry Bag for the occasion.

He just sent the following message.

"Big thankyou to Lynn Field and Jan-maree Ball for my beautiful Darwin decommissioning laundry bags. Previous COs are all honoured."

A big BZ to everyone who made one of the 160 laundry bags we gave to the crew and to those who made the personalised ones for the former COs.

I have been invited to be there when you all arrive along side tomorrow morning and I am very much looking forward to greet the grand old lady one last time.

Till next time..... wishing you fair winds and following seas
for your final journey Team Darwin.

Jan-Maree xx
