Hi all,
The latest copy of The Arunta Conquerer is out and I have received a copy. It features a really lovely article about Aussie Hero Quilts which I think you might like to read as well as a pretty awesome photo.
In addition the following is an excerpt from an email I received
from the CO of HMAS Arunta
"As you've seen from
our newsletter, we enter another busy period getting ready to return home, make
preparations for a hull swap and Supersession of Command. The work of Aussie
Hero Quilts has been an important aspect of maintaining the morale of ship’s
company and as such contributed to the success of our mission.
This deployment has been a long one and the quilts have provided colour in our sometimes grey world. The opportunity for sailors to request a custom design and have a quilt made for them personally has been a wonderful experience for them. Their interesting requests seem to have often combined with the talents and sense of humour of your quilters to provide an element of joy as sailors have opened their mail and proudly displayed their quilt. Every mess and cabin in Arunta is resplendent with colourful, unique quilts and laundry bags. Each one is greatly valued by its proud owner as both a gift of love and a creative work of art.
As you've seen, we've just had a photograph of the ship’s company and the quilts taken. In the attached photograph you will see sailors who are both proud to serve the Australian people and who very much appreciate the support of Aussie Hero Quilts.
Personally I would like to thank you for the wonderful quilt and laundry bag that were made for me. They have decorated my cabin since I received them and will be a fond reminder of Rotation 64 Op Manitou and my time as the Arunta's CO.
Please convey my personal thank yous to all who play a role in the work of Aussie Hero Quilts.”
