Hi all,
Most important! ๐ฆ Please double-check the address before sending off any parcels.
Could I also please ask that you include Jan-Maree’s phone number (0422227019) in the sender’s address on the parcel.
Last week, a quilt was accidentally sent to No. 12 instead of No. 19. Fortunately, the person who received it was lovely and, because my phone number was included on the parcel, she was able to call me. I could then check the address, and she kindly walked the parcel down to the correct address.
A lucky escape this time! ๐ But it could easily have ended very differently, so please take that extra moment to check the house number, street and postcode before handing your parcel over to the post office.
And please remember to include Jan-Maree’s phone number in the sender’s details — it can make all the difference if something goes astray.
5 weeks till the AHQ 15th Anniversary Dinner. Have you got your tickets yet?
✨ SHOWCASE YOUR CREATIVE TALENT! ✨
Would you like to showcase your creative sewing skills at the upcoming AHQ Thank You Dinner?
We’re putting together a special display for Saturday night and would love to feature some of the wonderful quilts and laundry bags created by our talented volunteers. ๐งต๐ชก❤️
If you’d like to have your work included, please let HQ know and we’ll add you to the display list.
๐ธ What we’ll need from you:
- A few details about your quilt or laundry bag
- A photograph of your finished work
It’s a wonderful opportunity to show off your creativity, share your work with fellow volunteers, visitors and celebrate the incredible talent within the AHQ community.
๐ Let us know if you’d like to be part of the display!
This week Upcoming Wedding ๐
Just a little heads-up that Jan-Maree’s son is getting married on Saturday, 19 September — such a special and exciting time for her family! ๐
With all the celebrations and family events happening this week, things at HQ will need to be a little different.
For this week, if possible, can you submit all requests to take on quilts or bags by Wednesday, 6 September at 5:00 pm. If you put in for a request after that please be aware that there may be a slightly delayed response as others fill in for Jan-Maree.
Jan-Maree will be fully immersed in the wedding celebrations and enjoying this precious family time. She would really appreciate it if you could please hold on to any non-urgent emails during this time, and that includes text and Facebook messages. She will be back and ready to catch up with everyone from Tuesday, 22 September.
Thank you so much for your understanding and support.
PRIORITIES
Requests number 1-20 are priority for a variety of reasons:
These are not the only ones on deployment.
It would be good to get these done and to their recipients.
As always, the requests are listed in priority order. There are many new and interesting requests that have come on this week.
Please let me know if you can help.
POST BY DATE
The post by date for all Requests on this list is 20 October 26 please, or earlier if you can manage this. If you cannot make that date, please let me know. Do reach out if you have any timing issues and we’ll resolve one way or the other. In fact, if you are going to be late posting it please let me know BEFORE you post it. Also, if this time frame is too tight for you, there are options, just email me to discuss, thank you.
Request Information
When selecting a request, remember, you do not have to include everything they have asked for. Footy quilts do not need to have the logo or even the team’s name. Using the team colours is all that is required. Simple is perfectly acceptable. A number of these requests have given you favourite colours as well as footy teams or other hobbies and interests. It is fine to make a quilt using their favourite colours and include only one of their interests. It is fine to keep it simple.
If there is more than one request on this list that you would be happy to do I suggest that you send me a list of requests and tell me how many you want to be allocated….i.e. one of the following please….There are always a few requests that everyone wants to do (and I can never pick them) so if the first one you ask for is taken then I can allocate another from your list if I have a list.
Any queries you might have, please don’t hesitate to contact via the AHQ email as per usual with any queries and we will assist you from there. We may not know the answer, but it will be our pleasure to research and get back to you.
A reminder, when you are ready to post the quilt or laundry bag you’ve created, please use the name given to you in any correspondence with the admin team. This helps the volunteer admin team keep a track of what’s been sent etc.

Also, please use the Aussie Heroes PO Box address on your parcel in the event the parcel is Returned to Sender - the PO Box is a safe place in the event of any mishaps with postage.

Don’t forget to take a photo of your completed quilt or laundry bag to email to AHQ with the name of the recipient and we can include in the Weekly Dispatches blog and add to the tally of quilts and laundry bags sent off to the troops. I personally love viewing the photos of those projects dispatched – so inspiring.
If you are using a AHQ supplied prepaid satchel please kindly use the AHQ address for the return address– also for your own packaging – if a parcel is Returned to Sender it is likely we can expedite its journey to the recipient from Sydney.
Please also please hold on to the Tracking number (the pink sticker that you should remove before posting – we’ve experienced mail delays lately (haven’t we all?) and having the Tracking number is very reassuring to keep an eye on the parcel’s progress in arriving at its destination.
Don’t forget, if you look at today’s Request List and need help choosing, please feel free to get in touch to discuss, we will be ready to reply and offer guidance by email. Our goal is to help you find a request that you will be comfortable with doing. If you need a crest etc we may be able to post embroideries / printed fabric images or email some of these to you.
Helpful info may be gleaned here from Information For Those That Sew
