15th Anniversary Star Block Quilt

 Hi All,

This year marks our 15th Anniversary. 15 years of caring for the ADF.

In order to mark this milestone we are going to spend some time making some quilts will 15 blocks. Each block will be made by different volunteers so that the quilts will be a joint effort.

The tutorial for the blocks can be found here.

The first block we are going to make will be my old favourite, the star block. Instructions are to follow.  This is a simple block, well within the capabilities of any new quilter. We need 14 blocks in total.

Would you like to make a star block or two for this request?

The request is "Marine themes with lots of colour."

The outer squares will be a shades of blue.

The centre square is to be marine themed: marine animals, fish, birds, boats etc, you name it.

The star points are to be bright and colourful and something that contrasts well with the blue and marine fabrics. We want something that pops.

There is a finished block at the end of this post to give you an idea. You can use the same blues for the outer squares or they could be all different. Likewise the star points could be one colour, two colours or more.

Let those creative juices flow.

Remember, please do not trim your blocks.

Now we need people to volunteer to make one block. If you are interested please send us an email to friendsofahq@gmail.com to nominate.

All star blocks need to be in the mail by 31 March and need to be posted to

We used to do a few of these team effort quilts and we haven't done one for ages so it is good to be back at it and our 15th Anniversary is a great reason to get back into it.

Keep spreading the word and happy stitching!
