A Visit to Simpson Barracks - Victoria - by Nicole W

You’re invited to Simpson Barracks

Yallambie VIC

Last month, when Jan-Maree was in Melbourne to receive the Lut Da award at the Australasian Quilt Convention, you may remember reading about the afternoon tea that several Victorian quilters enjoyed with her at the home of Caroline L.

Whilst it was a wonderful opportunity for us to share sewing stories and ideas, one of the most special parts of the afternoon was meeting the recipients and chaplains who also attended - Dave, Mark and Mark.  Having an opportunity to chat with currently serving or recently retired members always gives us invaluable insight into defence force life for the people we sew for!

At the time, Padre Mark Dunn generously offered to host a gathering for Aussie Heroes quilters and laundry baggers at Simpson Barracks (in Watsonia, Melbourne) later in the year. True to his word, he has organised a wonderful tour for us on 4th of July 2018 (9.30am – 1.00pm), with morning tea, a tour of the Barracks History Room/Museum and lunch!

This is another fabulous chance to meet and hear the history and stories of ADF personnel who have been deployed (and some who’ve been AHQ recipients) and also to learn about life stationed back in Australia.

If you would like to attend this very special event, please contact Jan-Maree  via the AHQ email ( wilsons@bigpond.net.au and she will pass on your details to me (Nicole!) and Caroline.

Numbers are limited, so it’s first come, first served!

If you would like to come but need help with transport, we have a plan and will do our best to work something out!

Cheers Nicole W
