Recently I had the opportunity to meet a chaplain on his way
to deploy to Kabul for the next few months. Whilst we were chatting he showed
me some pictures of the inside of the chapel in Kabul. I am sure it is very serviceable for the
purpose, but it was drab and almost colourless. Most of the colours inside the chapel really
echo the colours of the landscape and environment outside and you know that is one reason everyone loves having our quilts and laundry bags around. The walls are all a yellowy cream,
punctuated with curtainless windows and no wall-hangings except for a military
drab brown banner which proclaimed this was the Rallypoint Chapel.
My immediate response was, we can do better than that! And I hope we are going to. So here I am announcing a very special
Mystery Quilt project.
We are going to make a total of seven quilts. Lynn will be making one that will
incorporate a cross, largely made out of camouflage fabric. That will be surrounded by a narrow border
of mustard yellow and then the whole quilt will have a mustard yellow border.
The Mystery Quilts will be the other six quilts. There will
be three for each side wall. Each quilt
will be made up of 15 wonky log cabin blocks with one horizontal stripe in a
plain homespun going from side to side.
On that will be appliqued a single word…
The chosen words will be…..
Faith, Hope, Love, Joy, Peace and Holy
Each quilt will have a 3 inch border around the whole quilt
in the same colour that the word is appliqued on. Each of the six quilts will have a separate
colour for this homespun…. As follows….
Aqua | Purple | Green | Orange | Red |
White
|
Hope
|
Peace
|
Love
|
Joy
|
Faith
|
Holy
|
Please go with medium tones of the colour and for green please make it a grassy green, as opposed to acid greens, teals or bottle greens. If you are not sure sure just email me.
We need fifteen blocks for each quilt. If you would like to take part please email me and register, telling me how many blocks you would like to make and in what colour/s.
We will be using the scrappy log cabin for these quilts.
The
tutorial can be found here https://app.box.com/s/b6grnn6k2ctdbv6xgcr1
NOTE, and this will be included in the instructions you receive when you register to do a block or blocks, please continue making your block until it is 10.5 inches in size. Do not trim them down - that will be done once they are received here.

Hope you have some fun with it.
Till next time ....................keep spreading the word and happy stitching.

These quilts will look pretty nice when they are all finished and hanging. What a great idea. They will certainly brighten up the walls of the chapel.
