Hi all!
Yes it is BOM night again.
Woo Hoo!!
This is called the Twisted Ribbon Block and this is Naomi's first BOM since offering to help me out. Thanks Naomi!
Applause Please!!!
This is how your finished block should look.
To make this block, you will need to cut:
Two 6.5" x 3.5" pieces of background fabric (shown on the left)
One x 4.25" square (4 & 1/4") also in background fabric (shown middle top)
One x 4.25" square (4 & 1/4") in a fabric that contrasts your main/patterned fabric (shown middle bottom)
Three x 3.5" (3 & 1/2") squares of main/patterned fabric (shown far right)
Take the two x 4.25" squares and mark a diagonal line on the back of whichever is the lighter coloured of the two fabrics (to make the line easier for you to see when you sew it).
Sew 1/4" either side of the diagonal line.
Cut along the diagonal line, to form two separate pieces of work.
Press each unit open, with the seams towards the darker of the two fabrics.
Place your ruler ontop of each unit, with the diagonal line being on the seam line (this will make it a true squared half square triangle or HST) and trim both of the units to measure 3.5"
Now attach the two HST units to either side of your remaining 3.5" main fabric square, making sure to set them out as shown in the above pic. Sew using a 1/4" seam allowance as before. Press the seams towards the centre square.
Then sew each of your three rows of fabric together. Press the final two seams away from the centre row....voila, you have now completed your Twisted Ribbon Block.
Above is just one possible layout that these blocks can be utilized in.
Great job Naomi - more applause please!
This months Colour/Fabric Choices.
This month I thought we would make some blocks so that some of them can be combined into Wounded Warrior Quilts.
For the background fabric please choose a cream or very pale colour
For the other fabrics please choose an Aussie Fabric or something in Aussie colours - say greens, browns, oranges - I hope you know what I mean.
Next month, we'll be back with another exciting (but easy) block for you to sew. Please send any completed August BOM's to:
Aussie Hero Quilts
PO Box 248
Cherrybrook NSW 2126
Australia

Till next time..............keep spreading the word and happy stitching!
Thank you for the applause Jan-Maree. I had fun doing the BOM for everyone, and hope no one has any trouble whipping some of these up for the Wounded Warrior quilts.

Great looking block Naomi. Hope all goes well on your Canberra trip Jan-Maree.
ReplyDeleteI found the Aussie flag teatowels in our local (Qld) Sams Warehouse. $1.97 up here. Of course I bought some. They had a few more so if anyone wants some, please let me know, it is not far to go back.
