Quilts of the Week

The lovely Carole found this piece of fabric recently and has offered to send it to anyone who would like to use it for Aussie Heroes.  My initial response was to say "yeah send it to me" but as lots of the donated fabric makes it here I decided to put it up and see if one of you would like to do something with it.

Leave me a comment or send me an email and I will let Carole know who to send it to next week.  First in best dressed ladies!
This could be a love of fun!

And now for the Quilts (and Laundry Bags) of the Week

This is Leonie's first time making laundry bags and her first response to a request.  She has packed whole box of goodies to go with this but I am not showing pics in case Mr DN sees it.

This is a special quilt.  A lovely boss requested a quilt for herself but she also requested quilts for two of her staff.  Now each serving member is entitled to one quilt and if they want to be able to send it home as a gift to a loved one that is fine with me.  This is for a Senior NCO (can't give too many details as you understand) who is missing his little grand daughter so his bos requested this for him to send to her.  Boy I wish I could be there to see the look on his face when he opens the box.  As alsways, with the kangaroos on quilts, and a pink one especially this time - this is the work of Liz from WA!
A quilt for her and a laundry bag for Granddad.

Marg from WA has come through again and made five laundry bags to send off.

Kaye is also an inaugural sender and her first three quilts went off this week.  There will be three happy Special Ops chappies getting these at the other end.

This is Susan's response to a request from a request from a spouse so it will be a complete surprise when it turns up.  And just so you know - that border print is not flowers -it is thistles.
Love that block combination!
This laundry bag is winging its way this week too  - I actually got to finish this and a quilt as well, but the quilt is too distinctive to show here till I know it has been received.

This is one of the laundry bags made in Penrith last week and it is heading off to TK.

And last but not least we have Carolynne's quilt and laundry bag, her first foray into Aussie Hero sewing and a great response to a request from Dubai.

I am posting early as I am heading out to Melbourne tonight.  See you on Sunday night as usual - if I am not buried under dirty laundry and unpacking!

Till next time....................keep spreading the word and happy stitching!

Another sneak peak.......

Big news of the day is that the Online Quilt Magazine has just published an article on Aussie Heroes - hopefully that will lead some more Friends our way. (oops I nearly said Sewers!  EEEKK)

This morning I got the go ahead to send more goodies direct to Egypt.  I am hoping to start with ten quilts and 20 laundry bags.   I will send more quilts once I make sure that more are not already on their way.  So, if you quilt is not already on the Quilts in Waiting File and you want to send it to Egypt please give me a yell so I can give you the address.  I am not putting the email on the blog as I need to control the number of quilts going there so we don't send too many.

The following is a lovely quilt by Liz from WA with her trademark kangaroos.

As well as three great laundry bags.  Love the Aussie Icon labels.
Another Red Roo
I think this laundry bag has great bones.  Hee hee!
And before I go - a little sneak peak!  Shhhh!  Don't tell!
I finished all the applique on this today and hope to sandwich, quilt and bind it this weekend.

I can't spend any more time talking as I had an email from a lovely lady called Diane and she is coming by tomorrow afternoon to collect the makings of 20 laundry bags so that she can go home and sew them,  I want to have them all ready for her.

Till next time....................keep spreading the word and happy stitching!

10 April 2012

All Sorts and 5 days to go!

5 days to go.
Did anyone else make it to the post office today?  I sent off another 4 boxes today and four more to go tomorrow.  I have had a few emails from others who made the trip too.

I am assuming by now that anyone making or sending Pink blocks already has them in the mail.  I am planning on putting the quilt together on the 18th during out next sewing day so yell out if you are still planning on sending some.

Today I received two parcels both from America!  One from my home town (when I lived in the States) in Connecticut from Lisa and she sent this great nine patches
And a parcel from Teresa who lives in Indianna containing these great nine patches.
Teresa made some nine patches too and they included  cool peace sign fabric - look what she included in her parcel for me this time - another peace sign fabric - GROOOOVY Teresa - Love it.  Thanks so much.
Thanks so much girls.  It is just lovely that so many people are involved in this quilt!  That makes it really special!

Now I have a few more pics to show of quilts that have been mailed off.  First up we have Debra's quilts great quilts and what a fabulous country gate to take the picture on!  How I wish I could find a gate like that for my pictures!
Next we have Wendy's quilt. This is going to be one of our first Wounded Warrior Quilts!
Lorraine from the Verandah Post Patchworkers Group from Nambucca Heads sent me this pciture of their laundry bags which they managed in spite of the fact that they had a big Easter quilt show as well!
Liz's efforts are wonderful to look but when you consider that she only found out about us a week ago that makes her finishes all the more impressive don't you think?
What soldier isn't going to love this quilt!
Sue S sent this quilt on its way today.  She has already started on her next ones.
Now just before I go I thought I should caution you just a little not to get too disappointed if you don't hear back from whoever receives your parcels.  my girlfriend's son is serving over there at the moment and it is not always possible for him to email back.  He can't always ring easily either.  It seems to really depend on whereabouts the individual soldiers are stationed and what sort of conditions they are living in.  As an example, when the Gumnut quilters sent off the original 23 quilts, 15 were for the lovely Warrant Officer and his group.  The rest went to other soldiers - no idea who - but 8 soldiers received quilts and we have only ever heard from one guy and he is the father of the little girl we are making the pink girly quilt for.   The messages we have received back however have been so heart warming and appreciative that you know that all the quilts are appreciated even if not all of the recipients are in the position to express it.

Having said that, if you do get an email or letter, I hope you will share whatever parts you are comfortable with me so that I can share it with everyone else.  Of course I never share any identifying details.

And have I told you that some of the guys are actually reading the blog on a regular basis, including the comments!  Love it!

Till next time..............keep spreading the word and happy stitching!
