Happy Wednesday Friends!

There are, as always, some beautiful sentiments in the following gratitude letters.
Grab a cuppa, sit back and relax while you soak up some well-deserved gratitude!

Good evening Sue N,

I have received my beautiful quilt and I could not be more in love with this gorgeous piece of hand-made warmth!!

It’s my first time serving on the platform I’m currently on and I’ll be honest, I’m a little nervous. But with this stunning quilt on my tiny tiny bed I know I’ll have a cosy place to relax on the ship while I’m away from home.

Thank you again, you have brought my themes and patterns to life, everyone I have shown has said “oh my goodness, that’s so you!!”. Absolutely nailed it!

Thank you for all your hard work, you have touched so many lives with your creativity and I am so grateful for the care, love and thought you put into this piece for little old me.

Kindest and warmest regards,

Aloha Rachel B,

Dear Aussie Hero Quilts,

I am writing this as a huge thank you as a Mum of one of the soldiers who received one of your most beautifully heart felt made quilts. I can’t tell you how proud I am of my son for serving our country and for giving his whole life to do this to keep us all safe. My son was so passionate about joining the Army since he was about four years old when one of the parents at preschool came in and chatted about being in the Army. This Dad gave my son a ration pack which he treasured for months and months till he finally opened it and ate it, funny as now he hates ration packs with a passion! As a mum I didn’t want him to join the Army which I’d mentioned many times to him because I was so worried about him being mentally or physically injured, but one day when he was about 14 and in the Army Cadets, he turned to me and said ‘Who’s going to look after Australia if there’s not people like me who actually want to do it’ and from that day on I changed what I was saying and I fully supported him.

Since my son has been deployed, I haven’t had a lot of communication from him, quite rare actually, so when I got communication from him showing me this most beautiful quilt, I actually cried because to think that someone else is thanking him and is as proud of him as I am is beyond a proud Mum moment. Seeing this quilt brought me to tears. It truly is a very special item to be given in his Army career. He won’t know I’ve written this, and he’s honestly not a man of a lot of words, but I know how happy he was to receive this, and I know he will cherish this quilt for the rest of his life and I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart because I wanted you to know that it is not only such a special kind thing for him to receive but I want you to know the emotion that it’s given me as well as his Mum and for him to contact me so quick to proudly show me this quilt means how special it is to him and that speaks volumes. He told me that Bridget R made his quilt with some parts of it made by Joan and Susan and so I think Bridget will know who I’m talking about and who she’s made this very beautiful quilt for with his 2 deployments on it and Aussie flag and the Ukraine flag. It’s stunning and very useful, it’s very skilfully made and it’s given me a special moment to remember.

Thank you, two simple words but huge meaning from my heart.

Kind regards

Hi Pennie T!

Thank you so much for the beautiful quilt! It arrived Friday and
it's been so nice to have in my room everyday. The sunset/sunrise image is so beautiful but I think the mountains at the top are my favourite piece!
It also perfectly fits the length of bed and matches my orange and blue pillowcase I bought from home.

It reminds me of  my border collie, Oscar, as the paw prints
on the back of the quilt remind me of him everyday.
Thank you so much again, I genuinely appreciate
the time, effort (not to mention your Skills) you give to this project.

Warm Regards

Another Aussie Hero Quilts story in celebration of our 15th Anniversary….

“I received an Aussie Heroes laundry bag, when I was deployed to Iraq in 2015.  The laundry bag made by Gail Mc of the Garage Girls (the West Pennant Hills crew) which was sent to me whilst deployed.  It started an ongoing relationship I have with some very special ladies and my laundry bag would also mirror my ADF career and life in general as the two were inextricably intwined.

This story almost ends very quickly. On my way home, in my excitement to get on the freedom bird back to Australia, I had actually left my laundry bag behind in AMAB.  Bearing in mind I was only supposed to be deployed for 10 weeks… 7 months later (and 6 weeks before I was supposed to get married) I headed home…. Well, you can understand why I was trying to get home! It was only for the fact a mate of mine saw the laundry bag with the initials AL and saw inside was a Sydney Swans shirt, Parramatta Eels shirt and a pair of Wallabies rugby shorts, he knew there was only one person he knew who had that sado-masochistic following of sporting teams and soon the bag and the contents were on their way home.

After this close call, laundry bag “AL” came with me on three more deployments, countless exercises, courses, work trips, holidays, hospital trips and the birth of my two children.  That’s what my laundry bag means to me!”

LTCOL Andrew with his beloved laundry bag “AL”, the Swans shirt and the Parramatta Eels shirt… the Wallabies shorts went over the rainbow on Talisman Sabre 2017.

This was shared on FB but as not everyone sees Facebook please bear with us for sharing it here also:

I often tell our volunteers that our quilts continue to do duty long after they have been presented. This quilt was sent to a recipient whilst he was deployed overseas in 2014.
How lovely it is to receive a photo of it being used on Operation Veteran Assist 12 years later in Victoria.

Cheers Catherine D

Until next week keep your letters, emails and photos coming in.  Wednesdays would be so totally boring without them!
