Request List 23 September 25

Hi all

The Aussie Hero Quilts Annual Thank You Dinner, is on Saturday 25th October, at The Rex Hotel, Canberra. Only four and a half weeks to go!!!!

Sorry if you are sick of hearing about the Aussie Hero Quilts Annual Thank You Dinner but it is our one big get together function each year, so it is a big thing for us.

This dinner is open to everyone. If you have made one quilt or laundry bag or many, ALL ARE WELCOME.  Please come along and join the fun. You will not regret it.

Friday afternoon – you can enjoy a tour of the Australian Defence Force Academy. I am told that they have been able to change the start time back to 1300 which is great. Also PLEASE NOTE… This will be a different tour from previous years with areas that you have not seen before. There is no cost for this event.

Friday night – The Volunteers’ Gathering $25

All volunteers and partners welcome to gather at the Ballroom at The Rex hotel. Tea, coffee and water available. Eat your dinner before coming. We will have a number of guest speakers and special treats planned during the evening. We gather at 6.30pm but the formalities won't commence until 7pm.  These are always a great night to get to know other volunteers and to listen to some interesting speakers.

Saturday morning – breakfast at The Rex for Newbies to meet Jan-Maree and other Admin Team Members.  Cost of your breakfast, pay at the time.

Saturday Bus Trip – A bus leaves from the Rex at 10 and will visit three quilt shops during the day as well as taking in some of the Canberra scenery and sights depending on time (and energy levels).  Lunch is included.  Cost is heavily subsidised at $50.  This is a great chance to collect fabric and friends. (Note we have booked an easy access Bus)

Saturday night- The Dinner Cost for Volunteers is $80.  Again, this is heavily subsidized.

The annual dinner provides an opportunity for our volunteers to meet recipients and other defence members.  It is also our only fundraiser for the year. The event will include a raffle as well as silent and live auctions of beautifully handcrafted quilts, artworks, and other great prizes as donated by our supporters. Please email for booking code to receive the Volunteer discount.

Sunday morning – Brunch at Poppy’s Café at the Australian War Memorial.  One last chance to swap contact details with other volunteers before we all head home back to our sewing machines.

If you haven’t bought your tickets yet or booked your accommodation you need to reach out to Jan-Maree.

Again, you need to email jan-maree@aussieheroquilts.com.au and ask for the Volunteers’ Discount Code for your dinner tickets as well as the instructions for booking your accommodation at The Rex.

Tickets available via Trybooking - https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1362453

Op Southern Discovery Display at the 2024 Thank You Dinner

Would you like to have your handiwork (quilt and\or LB) on display at this year’s dinner? Please notify us if you take on a request to bring it with you to Canberra for display and we will send you the information regarding dropping off and collecting the quilt/laundry bag.

The most quilts we can display is 23, including auction quilts, but the final number will be determined on the night depending on the layout and space available. A range of quilts for the different services and themes is considered when planning the display. Please do not be offended if your quilt is not displayed.

PRIORITIES

1-18 are on deployment overseas

As always, the requests are listed in priority order.

The first 18 are for folk on deployment overseas so obviously we would like to get these requests completed. Post can be so unreliable to some of our overseas locations so it can take a while to get parcels to them so the sooner they are in the mail the better.

All the rest of our requests are listed in priority order. Please let me know if you can help.

 POST BY DATE

The post by date for all Requests on this list is 28 Oct 25 please, or earlier if you can manage this.  If you cannot make that date, please let me know. Do reach out if you have any timing issues and we’ll resolve one way or the other. In fact, if you are going to be late posting it please let me know BEFORE you post it.  Also, if this time frame is too tight for you, there are options, just email me to discuss, thank you.

Request Information

When selecting a request, remember, you do not have to include everything they have asked for. Footy quilts do not need to have the logo or even the team’s name. Using the team colours is all that is required. Simple is perfectly acceptable.  A number of these requests have given you favourite colours as well as footy teams or other hobbies and interests. It is fine to make a quilt using their favourite colours but please include at least one of their interests.  It is fine to keep it simple.

If there is more than one request on this list that you would be happy to do I suggest that you send me a list of requests and tell me how many you want to be allocated….i.e. one of the following please….  There are always a few requests that everyone wants to do (and I can never pick them) so if the first one you ask for is taken then I can allocate another from your list if I have a list.

Any queries you might have, please don’t hesitate to contact via the AHQ email as per usual with any queries and we will assist you from there.  We may not know the answer, but it will be our pleasure to research and get back to you.

Aussie Hero Quilts (and Laundry Bags)

PO Box 248,

Cherrybrook, NSW 2126

Don’t forget to take a photo of your completed quilt or laundry bag to email to AHQ with the name and PMKEYS of the recipient and we can include in the Weekly Dispatches blog and add to the tally of quilts and laundry bags sent off to the troops.  I personally love viewing the photos of those projects dispatched – so inspiring.

If you are using an AHQ supplied prepaid satchel please kindly use the AHQ address for the return address– also for your own packaging – if a parcel is Returned to Sender, it is likely we can expedite its journey to the recipient from Sydney.

Please also please hold on to the Tracking number (the pink sticker that you should remove before posting – we’ve experienced mail delays lately (haven’t we all?) and having the Tracking number is very reassuring to keep an eye on the parcel’s progress in arriving at its destination.

Don’t forget, if you look at today’s Request List and need help choosing, please feel free to get in touch to discuss, we will be ready to reply and offer guidance by email. Our goal is to help you find a request that you will be comfortable with doing. If you need a crest etc we may be able to post embroideries / printed fabric images or email some of these to you.

Helpful info may be gleaned here  http://aussieheroquilts.blogspot.com/2019/07/information-post-for-those-that-sew-for.html    I look forward to seeing the photos of completed quilts and LBs when they are ready to post off.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE copy the ENTIRE line if you wish to nominate for a quilt or laundry bag.

For example….

Marvel Theme. Ironman     M       LB      1

Decoding The Columns

The first column is the theme or preferences requested.

The second column indicates the gender of the recipient.
