Laundry Bags for the Australian Invictus Games Team by Hilary P

Yesterday Jan-Maree, Belinda, Jenny D  and I travelled to the Rydges at Sydney International Airport to meet with the Australian Invictus Games team, to present  their personalized laundry bags. There was definitely an air of excitement within the group, and they all looked very smart in their uniforms. We assembled in the meeting room, where we were warmly welcomed.  Jan-Maree spoke about the importance of the Games in the recuperation from injury both physical and mental and how it helps people to move on to bigger and better experiences. Most of the team members play many different sports, which in itself is a challenge.

The laundry bags were presented by Jan-Maree individually, and there was much cheering and excitement as they opened their bags to admire the handiwork.

One of the recipients gave us a friendship bracelet each which was a lovely gesture.

Jenny receiving a Friendship Bracelet.

Jan-Maree encouraged all the recipients to apply for a quilt on their return. We wished them all good luck.

We were then presented with a book about the Invictus team, as well as a neck warmer in the Invictus colours and drink holder. The Invictus colours are green, gold and white, with a beautiful indigenous pattern designed by Jody-Sherie Godfrey. We also received a "Team Hale" badge from competitor Alex Hale.

A group photo was taken outside at the at the SYDNEY sign.

It was quite an emotional meeting, a lot of amazing people doing great things.  The group is obviously very motivated and excited and we wished them well. It’s not necessarily about the medals, but about the journey.

What a good looking group. We look forward to hearing their stories on their return. Vancouver here they come!

Thanks Hilary.  Till next time... please cheer for our Aussie Invictus Games Team!!
