Quilts for this Week and more...

This has been a very tough week for our wonderful guys over there, but especially for the guys of the group that the late SGT Diddams belonged to.
These are some of the nicest guys I have dealt with since starting Aussie Heroes and it is so hard to know they must be hurting so imagine how I felt when I got this email this morning from their RSM (Regimental Sergeant Major)

You'll be happy to know that we received two of your quilts today. I handed them out already and they were received with gratitude. It was a good morale boost after a tough few days.

Nothing makes me prouder of what we do than knowing we are boosting morale in even a small way when it is needed.

The following message and pictures also show that what we are doing is appreciated!

As promised, please see attached photos of me VERY happy with my quilt and laundry bag! (Not sure where my hair and make-up people got to, they were supposed to be there ...). Thanks so much for all your hard work.

I couldn't do it without you all so a very big thank you to everyone who has jumped on board!

We are making a difference!

Do you want to make a difference?
If any of you out there want to put a smile on a girl's face like the one above please let me know.  I have had a request for a girly quilt that is still waiting to be filled.  Let me know if you are interested please. (and again a lovely AH Friend has snapped this one up)

And now for the quilts of the week.

If you have sent a quilt or laundry bag off this week and I haven't included it here PLEASE email me so I can rectify that immediately!

This lovely bright one was made by Chris from SA.  I really love that stripe!
Caroline made this gorgeous one - Very Aussie!
Oi Oi Oi!  and don't forget the laundry bag.
Karen quilted this quilt which Andrea made.

Fran sent this clever quilt off - love the colours!

And check out these boxes by Marg!
Do you reckon there will be some happy faces once these contents are sighted?

and these - and don't you just LOVE the cupcake laundry bag!!!

And finally Peg has been sewing BOMs and asked me if it was alright to use the extra triangles to make a pinwheel in the middle of the block.   I don't see why not - looks pretty cool I think!

Please note.
If you email me, leave a comment or facebook me and you don't hear back from me within 24 hours it means that I have somehow missed your message.  This doesn't happen often but sometimes I get a heap of emails in  and things get frantaically busy and occasionally to my horror I slip.  I hate it when this happens but what can I say.  I am only human (but please don't tell my kids - they think I am super human - yeah right!)
If ever you don't get a response from me within 24 hours please contact me again.

Don't forget - one girly quilt needed!

Till next time..........keep spreading the word and happy stitching!

More finishes and AHQ goes PINK?

About three more weeks left to post.

Leave a comment if you popped any boxes in the mail today.

Cathy and her stitching girls had some stitching and fun and here is the result.  Fifteen laundry bags on their way to Afghanistan - you can check out the details here on Cathy's blog.  As you can tell they have all been prewashed.
Cute pup huh!  You can check her out here.  Apparently she is a real snuggler! Sounds good to me!

I put another four quilts in the mail today to the Warrant officer.  This is one of Caz's fabulous teatowel quilts.
And I keep thinking of this one of Andrea's as the Pub Crawl because of all the beer labels on it!
Maria made these last two tops.  I love the novelty fabric she uses - pandas and sheep  and dogs on motor bikes in this one
and more bikie dogs, wine bottles, owls and outdoor scenes in this one!
Time for an update on our pretty in pink quilt.  Who is making a block or some blocks?  Please leave a comment if you are going to so I know how many to expect.  These are my blocks and they were fun to do!
I did a few extra nine patches in case we need more - they can go on the back if we don't need them!
I recevied two lots of pinwheels today too.  The first three pinkish ones on this design wall are from my American friend, Lisa.  The rest of the ones on this board are from my SIL.
I put them together with the ones that I have and this is what you get - by jove I think we have enough for a quilt!  I think it looks great and I am thinking a bright colour for the border again to bring it to life.  Yep, I think these BOM quilts really are the BOMB!
I also received a parcel from Marg containing all those Aussie flag panels AND lots of this cool Wizard of Oz fabric.  All I keep thinking of when I look at this is click your heels and say "There is no place like home."  I can imagine a lot of the soldiers are thinking that right now!
That's it for tonight.  Don't forget to send photos of your quilts and laundry bags and let me know when you are sending !

Till next time...........keep spreading the word and happy stitching!

More quilts :-D

The Singleton Quilters had their sewing day today.  I wish I could have been there but they did extremely well.  You need to go here and check it out! You won't be sorry!

I finally managed to get the binding on this quilt today.  The top was made by Wendy from Victoria - it is number two of three that she sent me.  There were also a bunch of blocks in her parcel and I hope to get them made up soon too.
This is another of Caz's lovely quilts.  I think she is up to 6 but don't quote me as it is getting hard to keep track of the numbers.
This quilt was sent by Sue B.  It is the result of an Australia Quilt Block Swap and I think it is gorgeous.  The blocks are made by a bunch of different ladies from Australia and America.  Just lovely.
Would you believe that I have eight quilt tops waiting to be layered this Wednesday and one quilt waiting to be quilted.  There are a few quilts that are in blocks too including two nine patch quilts.  I am going to concentrate on quilting the eight before I piece any of those waiting.  I wonder how many more I can pack up before the 15th of April!

I sent the chaplain an email updating him on how many quilts we might be sending and telling him about the stickers on parcels etc.  I gave him an idea how many women are involved and sent him a couple of pictures. Here is some of his response.

WOW! You have been busy. What wonderful ladies from all over the country, I know that the support you have for our troops will be felt by those who receive your kind gift. Thanks for the photos, I love them, especially the one with them all on the fence and the Aussie flag flying.

I also asked him if I could have addresses to send quilts to the Chaplains who would be distributing our parcels.  Those who look after others still need looking after.  The Head Chaplain left if for the individual chaplains to reply.  I have heard from two of them so far.   One of them said he is leaving in three weeks but gave us the address of his successor.  The second Chaplain said

Your gift of a quit sounds absolutely amazing. My wife is a quilter and I know the time and effort required to produce a finished Item. I would love to recieve a quilt and would proudly display it in my office to add a bit of colour to the walls. It will also be a talking point with those who call to see me. I can then tell them the story of your generosity and the incredible power of the people's support back home in Aus.

Isn't it nice to know our quilts are appreciated.  I have chosen a special quilt that I just received back from my friend who has been sewing the label on.  She had it for a bit longer than expected as her husband has been ill but it is just as well it was delayed or it might have already been sent off and I think it is perfect for the job.  Remember this one?
Till next time...................keep spreading the word and happy stitching!

Fabulous Friday

I started out my day yesterday with binding some of the quilts that we quilted and layered last week.  Before long look what happened.  Both ends of my binding got tangled together!  Aggh!  A little bit of patience was needed to recover the situation!  Hmph!
I managed to get this quilt completely bound - thanks to some help from Cynthia who just happened to drop in and did some pinning while I kept sewing.  This is another of Caz's quilts!
And this is why Cynthia dropped over.  She had written to Nutex who manufacture some fabulous Aussie Fabrics - in New Zealand! - and asked for a contribution in the form of the two fabrics that we use for most of our labels.
And this is the result of their generosity!  10m of each!  That is going to make a lot of distinctive labels!
What a generous gesture from them to send it to us all the way from NZ.

Today I was determined to tidy up after all the parcels that I have received this week and I managed to get it done but the parcels kept coming and no, I AM NOT COMPLAINING!  I love getting mail!  and AUSSIE HERO mail is wonderful mail.  I got a huge parcel today from Cathy who you can also find here.  11m of this fabulous patchwork fabric for backings - enough for 6 quilts!
and this really cool scrap quilt!  I have to say that I really love scrap quilts!
Then I received a lovely little parcel from an American quilter called Lisa from The Red Headed Mermaid.  You have to check out her blog.  Lisa does some fabulous work - most of it really bright and very eye catching!  I love it.  I really connected with her when she posted pics of her new home town in Connecticut which just happens to have been my old home town when I lived in the States back when my 15 year olds were 4!  Small world.  I recognised the places she photographed and I was so excited.
Lisa sent four nine patch blocks for our BOM!!!  and they are her trade mark lovely colours!  Thanks Lisa!

And I received another two of these from Karen
each containing another three of these!  Queen sized battings!
That makes 12 of these that Karen has sent all up and that is enough batting for 36 - yep, that is THIRTY SIX - quilts!  Thanks so much Karen.   That is like 36 great big hugs for 36 fabulous (and maybe even hunky) soldiers!!!

I can't believe another week has passed.  By the end of next week I hope to have finished binding all the 14 quilts that Del Cynthia and I layered and Caz and I quilted.  Some I am leaving for Del to hand sew for me and the rest I am machining.  Lots of things are planned for next week - but you will have to keep reading the blog to see what we get up to!!!  So, stay tuned!

Till next time....keep spreading the word and happy stitching!
