Grati-Wednesday 21st January 2026

Happy Wednesday Friends!

There are, as always, some beautiful sentiments in the following gratitude letters.
Grab a cuppa, sit back and relax while you soak up some well-deserved gratitude!
***

Hi Bel P,

The quilt has arrived.

I love it, the detail you have gone to is amazing, plus the extra touches of the pictures of my family and I were unexpected.

I have included a photo with the quilt in front of an E-7A Wedgetail.

Thank you for the letter that came with the quilt, you and your family certainly have some deep roots within Defence.

Hope you have an enjoyable break and some well earnt relaxing time with family and friends.

Thank you again.

Warm Regards,

***
Hi Laura C,

Just wanted to say a huge thanks for the laundry bag, calender and your lovely letter. I really enjoyed reading it. The bag is awesome. I love the Balmain Tigers design and it’ll definitely get plenty of use.

It was great hearing about your volunteering, travels, flying adventures and time with your family. What you do with Aussie Hero Quilts is incredibly kind, and I’m very grateful to be the lucky owner of No. 82.

Thanks again for taking the time to make and send something so special. It really means a lot.

All the best,
***

Good morning Trish, Deb and Jan-Maree,

I wanted to take the opportunity to reach out after receiving my one of a kind quilt which I understand was created by both of you. It has been received safe and sound and it is everything I asked for and more, I love it.

I truly appreciate your time, care and skill that went into making the quilt for me. The quilt means a great deal, along with the meaning of why it is you do what you do and will be with me all my travels.

Once again thank you for what you do keep up the amazing work and have a great day.

Many thanks

***
Hey Clarissa L,

Just received my laundry bag and could not be more stoked! I read your amazing message and just wanted to reach out to say a big thanks.

I saw that you support Randwick which is sad to hear as I’m currently playing for Easts! Hopefully this year I will be playing first or second grade. If you ever hear my name whilst watching feel free to let me know!

Cheers

Hello Shirley D,

I would like to say a massive thank you for my amazing laundry bag, I love every part of it, you have done such an amazing job.

I really loved your letter and getting to know a little bit about yourself and your family, it put a smile on my face to read you’re from Victoria and love to play golf, I’m originally from Victoria myself with my family still living down there, and my mum living in Torquay. My twin brother and dad both love their golf as well.

Thank you so much for what you do with Aussie Hero Quilts and Laundry bags, I know myself and everyone else who receives your amazing work are very grateful and it means so much to me.

Thank you so much,
***
The following photo was taken at our annual dinner in Canberra. The recipient was so pleased to see this and felt very privileged. In her words:
"My goodness - I cannot believe you managed to get a photo of my quilt with CAF and WOFF-AF - this is sooooo cool and it really left me a little speechless and feeling a bit special! I hope they were as proud of your creation as I am :)"

Until next week keep your letters, emails and photos coming in.  Wednesdays would be so totally boring without them!

Request List 20 January 26

Hi all,

As we approach our upcoming Australia Day it gives us the chance to come together with care, respect, and unity to reflect on who we are and what we stand for.

May we take time to reflect, respect, celebrate, highlighting Australia's diverse people, cultures, and history, including deep respect for First Nations cultures, emphasizing unity, shared values, and looking towards a stronger future.

May we take time to reflect on those who have suffered recent hardships with floods, fires and those who serve both here overseas on deployments in tough environments. May our Australian values of mateship which were forged in the harsh colonial environment where survival depended on mutual support and was solidified through intense loyalty and camaraderie of soldiers, especially during World War I at Gallipoli, becoming a core national identity of equality, loyalty, and helping others in need. May we continue to shine and reflect these values we hold dear as Australians.

Will you be gathering with friends, family and celebrate Australia Day with a barbecue as Sam Kekovich says with lamb and of course a Pavlova? Will you be having a game of backyard cricket or footy?

The words to the beautiful song “I Am Australian” written in 1987 by Bruce Woodley of the Seekers and Dobe Newton of the Bushwackers is a powerful reminder of our history, our culture and where we have come from and the many sacrifices that have formed our great nation.

An extract from “I am Australian”.

“We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We'll share a dream and sing with one voice
"I am, you are, we are Australian."

PRIORITIES

Requests number 1 -26 Op Kudo are on deployment. So obviously we would like to get these requests completed.

As always, the requests are listed in priority order. There are many new and interesting requests that have come on this week.

Please let me know if you can help.

POST BY DATE

The post by date for all Requests on this list is 24 Feb 26 please, or earlier if you can manage this.  If you cannot make that date, please let me know. Do reach out if you have any timing issues and we’ll resolve one way or the other. In fact, if you are going to be late posting it, please let me know BEFORE you post it.  Also, if this time frame is too tight for you, there are options, just email me to discuss, thank you.

Request Information

When selecting a request, remember, you do not have to include everything they have asked for. Footy quilts do not need to have the logo or even the team’s name. Using the team colours is all that is required. Simple is perfectly acceptable.  A number of these requests have given you favourite colours as well as footy teams or other hobbies and interests. It is fine to make a quilt using their favourite colours but please include at least one of their interests.  It is fine to keep it simple.

If there is more than one request on this list that you would be happy to do I suggest that you send me a list of requests and tell me how many you want to be allocated….i.e. one of the following please….  There are always a few requests that everyone wants to do (and I can never pick them) so if the first one you ask for is taken then I can allocate another from your list if I have a list.

Any queries you might have, please don’t hesitate to contact via the AHQ email as per usual with any queries and we will assist you from there.  We may not know the answer, but it will be our pleasure to research and get back to you.

A reminder, when you are ready to post the quilt or laundry bag you’ve created, please use the name given you in any correspondence with the admin team.  This helps the volunteer admin team keep a track of what’s been sent etc.

Also, please use the Aussie Heroes PO Box address on your parcel in the event the parcel is Returned to Sender - the PO Box is a safe place in the event of any mishaps with postage.

Aussie Hero Quilts (and Laundry Bags)

PO Box 248,

Cherrybrook, NSW 2126

Don’t forget to take a photo of your completed quilt or laundry bag to email to AHQ with the name of the recipient and we can include in the Weekly Dispatches blog and add to the tally of quilts and laundry bags sent off to the troops.  I personally love viewing the photos of those projects dispatched – so inspiring.

If you are using an AHQ supplied prepaid satchel, please kindly use the AHQ address for the return address– also for your own packaging – if a parcel is Returned to Sender, it is likely we can expedite its journey to the recipient from Sydney.

Please also please hold on to the Tracking number (the pink sticker that you should remove before posting – we’ve experienced mail delays lately (haven’t we all?) and having the Tracking number is very reassuring to keep an eye on the parcel’s progress in arriving at its destination.

Don’t forget, if you look at today’s Request List and need help choosing, please feel free to get in touch to discuss, we will be ready to reply and offer guidance by email. Our goal is to help you find a request that you will be comfortable with doing. If you need a crest etc we may be able to post embroideries / printed fabric images or email some of these to you.

Helpful info may be gleaned here  http://aussieheroquilts.blogspot.com/2019/07/information-post-for-those-that-sew-for.html    I look forward to seeing the photos of completed quilts and LBs when they are ready to post off.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE copy the ENTIRE line if you wish to nominate for a quilt or laundry bag.

For example….

Marvel Theme. Ironman     M       LB      1

This is really important to make sure that neither you nor I copy the wrong number which could lead to me giving you the wrong details for specific request.  If you find it hard to copy and paste, please copy the line out as above.

Decoding The Columns

The first column is the theme or preferences requested.

The second column indicates the gender of the recipient.

The third column is as follows.

B=both quilt and laundry bag (feel free to nominate to JUST do the laundry bag if you wish)

Q= just a quilt

LB = just a laundry bag

F= female

M= male

Please let the Admin crew know if you have any other questions....Just email friendsofahq@gmail.com

Looking forward to seeing what you want to make this week. Happy stitching!

Cheers,

Jan-Maree
