On Friday the chairman of the Aussie Hero Quilts Board, AIRMSHL
Leo Davies, Retd, and I had the privilege of meeting with General The Honourable
David Hurley AC CVO DSC to present him with an Aussie Hero Quilt. He has been on my recipient radar for a
number of years but once he reached the end of his tenure as the 27th
Governor General the time seemed right.
I allowed myself the privilege of making his quilt myself. Joan and Alan, The Birdies, made the
embroideries and Philomena quilted and bound it.
In addition to the quilt, Leo and I also had the pleasure of
presenting a Challenge Coin Stadium which was beautifully made by WO “Jock”. Those of you who attended our Annual Thank
You Weekend in October might remember that we presented Jock with his own quilt
and he also presented us with a number of his beautiful coin stadiums for our Lucky
Door Prizes on Friday night and for the Auction on Saturday night. I think it is safe to say that GEN and Mrs Hurley were
please to receive both items but the coin stadium in particular will solve the
problem of what to do with some of the many coins still needing to be displayed
in the General’s new office. I can only imagine how many coins he has!Till next time....keep spreading the word and happy stitching!
