Those who attended the AHQ Dinner recently will have seen the Op Southern Discovery (OP SD) display of quilts and laundry bags.
After the dinner they were handed over and I brought them back to Hobart.
Thursday 7 November, was an early morning
start for me, attending Anglesea Barracks in Hobart, to meet the second group
of OP SD expeditioners. After a short
introduction by the Commander OP SD, I had the pleasure of presenting the two
members with their quilts and laundry bags.
They had only recently arrived in Hobart (one
the night before) and were leaving that morning to catch a flight directly to Antarctica.
No lengthy sea voyage for this pair, by the time you read this, they will be
well settled into their posts in Antarctica.
LEUT
G is a meteorologist. I was told no-one
can go outside down there unless he gives the say so, and SGT S is a RAAF C17
mover so will be assisting with the regular C17 supply flights.
Both were delighted with their quilts and
laundry bags (and assured me they will share the Tim Tams).
Quilt tops by Bobbie and the Mystery BOMers, crests by Inge and Keryn, quilting and finishing by Philomena and the Garage Girls.
For background to AHQ’s involvement with Operation Southern Discovery, please see the AHQ blog post on 12 October 2024 https://aussieheroquilts.blogspot.com/2024/10/quilts-and-bags-for-our-adf-members.html
Thanks Anne. Great report!
till next time, keep spreading the word and happy stitching!
