Sandy's Stars

Hey all,

Many of you will remember our much loved Sandy, but for those who are not familiar, Sandy from Coffs Harbour was an amazing woman who ran our Block of the Month program, designed many quilts that were sewn by the Coffs Harbour Sewing Team, sewed many herself and did soooo much more.

Unfortunately, in May 2020 Sandy was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour, and although she fought it with grace and courage, it eventually took her life in February this year.

The last block of the month that we did was a special one to honour our beautiful Sandy.  Sandy was such a shining star that I decided that we would re-name this block "Sandy's Star".

I promised that we would repeat it every year.  My plan was to do it every May but I was too involved with my cancer treatment in May this year so I am a bit later with it than I would have liked, but I know that Sandy would understand.

You can find our tutorial for Sandy's Star here

The tutorial list certain colour ways but we are going to do different colours.

Any combination of Red, White and Blue

and

Green & Gold for Australia.

The red, white and blue ones can be red and white, blue and white, or red and blue. They can also be all three colours.

The green and gold ones can be simply green and gold, or they can include Aussie touches, maybe a themed fabric, applique or embroidery.

I am not going to stipulate where the colours need to go. Make them scrappy or not. It is up to you. Just make sure that they fall into one of the above categories.

Once you have finished your block or blocks please send them to the following address

Sandy's Stars
PO Box 248,
Cherrybrook NSW 2126

It takes 15 stars to make one quilt top.  I have decided to do something extra special with 15 of these blocks. We will pick out the nicest 15 Aussie themed blocks and will turn them into a quilt that we will auction at our 10th Anniversary Dinner in March next year.  Sandy used to love coming to our dinners and each year she met more and more of our recipients and quilters and everyone loved her. To auction a quilt made in her honour will mean she is part of Anniversary Dinner.

Let's make some wonderful Sandy's Star Quilts to honour our wonderful friend.

Happy Stitching!

Lots of love,

Jan-Maree xx
