After much
consideration, in March this year we announced that the Aussie Hero Quilts 10th Anniversary
Celebration Weekend and Dinner would
be delayed until 2022. It is now with great joy, that we announce that the date
for the Aussie Hero Quilts anniversary has been confirmed as Saturday 12 March
2022 at the Rex Hotel Canberra. Booking details will be released in due
course, keep an eye out on this blog for updates.
As usual, the 10th anniversary celebration
dinner will be coupled with a volunteer’s celebration weekend with events
occurring from the afternoon of Friday 11 March to Sun 13 March, where
volunteers will get the opportunity to see the sights of Canberra and get to know
each other. Activities generally include tours, attendance at the
Australian War Memorial Last Post Ceremony, and a volunteers dinner on Friday
11 March. We know that people like as much notice as possible to
save for the trip and book flights, and are excited to confirm the date.
For those volunteers
that are new to our team, the volunteers’ weekend is a great opportunity
to get to know each other and meet some of the many grateful recipients of
quilts and laundry bags. The weekend involves a Volunteers’
Gathering (held the night before the annual dinner on the Friday night) where
volunteers get to hear from some of our recipients and other interesting
speakers. Saturday generally entails a newbies brunch with our founder,
Jan-Maree Ball before an opportunity to undertake a tour of key sights in
Canberra and some quilting shops, before attending the annual ‘Thank you
Dinner’ that night. It is always a wonderful weekend that is rounded out
with a casual breakfast/brunch at Poppy’s Café at the Australian War
Memorial. Specific details of the volunteers’ weekend will be released in
closer to the end of 2021.
For those volunteers
planning on joining us for the volunteers’ weekend, the Rex Hotel Canberra
are offering 10% off the room rate with the discount code AUSSIE for the
weekend. The code is used when booking through their website.
The rates will change
as we get closer to the date and as demand increases – the discount code will
be 10% off the best available rate at the time of booking.
Currently the rates
will be lowest as we are quite far out, there are for the night of 12th March 2022:
King Room = $153.00
per night (with 10%, $137.70pn)
Crown Suite = $182.00
per night (with 10% $163.80pn)
I know that some people will be nervous booking so far in
advance with border closures etc, but their cancellation policy is
24hours notice free of charge – so 2pm the day before the check in date.
