Timtams..... chocolate currency.....

Follow up to The Project “Quilting Army” – AHQLB and Tim Tams

Tim Tams are like gold over there”.

I am sure most of you will have seen or heard about the segment about AHQ&LBs on The Project back in late October 2019.  It featured Jan-Maree and her team at West Pennant Hills preparing quilts and laundry bags for the troops.  It was a very popular segment and received a lot of very positive comments from supporters and the public.  I even received a message from an Australian friend who lives in Germany letting me know in case I missed it.

I hadn’t realised how popular the segment was until Jan-Maree mentioned at the AHQ weekend in Canberra a week later that the segment had had many, many shares and tens of thousands of views on social media.  Indeed, as of the time of writing this, the segment on the Project’s fbook page has had 151K views and 1.9K shares – yes, one hundred and fifty one thousand views – WOW, that is a lot of publicity for AHQ.

And yes, it was also very good publicity for Arnott’s Biscuits and Tim Tams.  At the beginning of the segment, you can see a packet of Tim Tams being wrapped in one of the quilts for posting, and at the end, back in the studio, the reporter (Tommy Little) adds that if anyone wants to help by sending a donation, it could be used to buy Tim Tams, he says “Tim Tams are like gold over there”.   Apparently when he arrived at Jan-Maree’s house, he saw her stash of biscuits and was quite amazed.

We all know Tim Tams are greatly appreciated by our recipients, they tell us, and if you are like me, you keep a little stash in the sewing cupboard for the next AHQ parcel.  Jan-Maree and her team need an even bigger stash!

So, I decided to write to Arnott’s and let them know about their windfall of publicity and to tell them about AHQ.  I didn’t beat about the bush, I also asked for a donation of Tim Tams.  A reply was received very promptly:

“From all of us at Arnott's we thank you kindly for all the amazing work you do to help our servicemen and servicewomen abroad. We would appreciate it if you could please provide your address,  so we can forward some complimentary packs of Tim Tams we trust  will put [a] smile on their faces.”

Jan-Maree tells me she received 4 big boxes of Tim Tams, which will make a hundred or so deployed recipients (and their colleagues) happy in the lead up to Christmas.

Thank you to Arnott’s for their kind donation.

(and just in case you are not one of the 151k, it can be viewed on this link) here...
