Earlier this year we announced that the Aussie Hero Quilts 10th anniversary dinner and volunteers’ weekend would take place 11-13 March 2022 (pending COVID-19 requirements). We are now pleased to announce that tickets to both the 10th anniversary dinner and the volunteers’ weekend are now available on Try Booking, via the following link https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing?eid=798247&.
As usual, the 10th anniversary dinner will
be coupled with a volunteers’ weekend with events occurring from the evening of
Friday 11 March to Sun 13 March, where volunteers will get the opportunity to
see the sights of Canberra and meet the other volunteers.
For those volunteers that
are new to our team, the weekend is a great opportunity to get to know each
other and meet some of the many grateful recipients of quilts and laundry bags.
Key events include:
·
Friday 11
March
o
Friday afternoon
activity for volunteers. This event is still being confirmed, but likely to
occur between 1 and 5 PM.
o
Volunteers’ gathering will
take place 7-10PM on Friday 11 March where volunteers get to hear from some of
our recipients and other interesting speakers.
·
Saturday 12 March
o
Newbies brunch with our
founder, Jan-Maree Ball will take place on the Saturday morning between 9 and
10 AM.
o
Canberra
bus tour. An opportunity to undertake a tour of key sights in Canberra and some
quilting shops between 10 AM and 4:30 PM.
o Annual ‘Thank you Dinner’ 6:30-10:30PM aims
to bring together volunteer quilters, their partners, and the quilt recipients.
This event also celebrates the 10 years Aussie Hero Quilts has been supporting
our service men and women, and veterans. The Dinner will be held at the Rex Hotel in Canberra.
·
Sunday 13 March
o To finish the weekend, volunteers are invited
to a casual breakfast/brunch at Poppy’s Café at the Australian War Memorial.
For
those volunteers planning on joining us for the volunteers’ weekend, the Rex Hotel are offering 10% off the room rate
with the discount code AUSSIE. The code applies when booking via phone but they tell me that if you want to book online then use the NOTES section to ask themn to apply the AUSSIE Code for your discount. The rates will change as
we get closer to the date and as demand increases – the discount code will be
10% off the best available rate at the time of booking.
I know that some people
will be nervous booking so far in advance with border closures etc, but their
cancellation policy is 24hours notice free of charge – so 2pm the day before
the check in date.
There will be more
information to follow in the coming months. If you have any questions, please
feel free to contact me on AHQvolunteersweekend@gmail.com
Cheers, Jen.
