Request List 7 October 2024

Hi All

Two and a half weeks till the Aussie Hero Quilts Annual Thank You Weekend.

We are getting down to the wire now. I am shortly going to have to finalise the numbers for the tours of the Australian War Memorial, The Volunteers’ Gathering on the Friday night and the Bus Tour on the Saturday so please, if you haven’t already, make sure you buy your tickets…. via Trybooking.  https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1188651

You don’t want to miss out!

Another final reminder…

Quilts or bags to display at the dinner

Don’t forget to let me know if you are hoping to bring a quilt or bag along to our Annual Dinner to display. Please email me straight away and let me know. Any of the requests on this list except for the priority requests would be great choices.

Now, here is the request list for this week.

I want to acknowledge that a number of the requests on the list this week are quite unusual and certainly not things that many of us would automatically understand. Please know that I have done some googling and if you need some help, I can explain a lot of the requests to you. Most of them have an easy solution so please don’t be afraid to ask me for advise/assistance.

PRIORITY REQUESTS

Request numbers 1-12 inclusive members who are serving overseas but requests 1-3 are all URGENT. We also have some who are serving in Australia but still away from home doing the essential job of Border Protection. These are requests are 13-19.  I would really love them to get some quilty love sooner than later so they experience the morale boost of an Aussie Hero parcel whilst they are away from home.

POST BY DATE

The post by date for all Requests on this list is 11 November 24 please, or earlier if you can manage this.  If you cannot make that date, please let me know. Do reach out if you have any timing issues and we’ll resolve one way or the other. In fact, if you are going to be late posting it please let me know BEFORE you post it.  Also, if this time frame is too tight for you, there are options, just email me to discuss, thank you.

Request Information

When selecting a request, remember, you do not have to include everything they have asked for. Footy quilts do not need to have the logo or even the team’s name. Using the team colours is all that is required. Simple is perfectly acceptable.  A number of these requests have given you favourite colours as well as footy teams or other hobbies and interests. It is fine to make a quilt using their favourite colours but please include at least one of their interests.  It is fine to keep it simple.

If there is more than one request on this list that you would be happy to do I suggest that you send me a list of requests and tell me how many you want to be allocated….i.e. one of the following please….  There are always a few requests that everyone wants to do (and I can never pick them) so if the first one you ask for is taken then I can allocate another from your list if I have a list.

Any queries you might have, please don’t hesitate to contact via the AHQ email as per usual with any queries and we will assist you from there.  We may not know the answer, but it will be our pleasure to research and get back to you.

A reminder, when you are ready to post the quilt or laundry bag you’ve created, please use the PMKEYS number given you in any correspondence with the admin team.  This helps the volunteer admin team keep a track of what’s been sent etc.  The PMKEYS number is included in the address details we supply for your recipient e.g.  the 7-digit number in bold below.

CPL Wanda Quilt 8765432

TG 3456

AFPO XX

ADF

Sydney NSW 2890

Also, please use the Aussie Heroes PO Box address on your parcel in the event the parcel is Returned to Sender -  the PO Box is a safe place in the event of  any mishaps with postage.

Aussie Hero Quilts (and Laundry Bags)

PO Box 248,

Cherrybrook, NSW 2126

Don’t forget to take a photo of your completed quilt or laundry bag to email to AHQ with the name and PMKEYS of the recipient and we can include in the Weekly Dispatches blog and add to the tally of quilts and laundry bags sent off to the troops.  I personally love viewing the photos of those projects dispatched – so inspiring.

If you are using an AHQ supplied prepaid satchel please kindly use the AHQ address for the return address– also for your own packaging – if a parcel is Returned to Sender it is likely we can expedite its journey to the recipient from Sydney.

Please also please hold on to the Tracking number (the pink sticker that you should remove before posting – we’ve experienced mail delays lately (haven’t we all?) and having the Tracking number is very reassuring to keep an eye on the parcel’s progress in arriving at its destination.

Don’t forget, if you look at today’s Request List and need help choosing, please feel free to get in touch to discuss, we will be ready to reply and offer guidance by email. Our goal is to help you find a request that you will be comfortable with doing. If you need a crest etc we may be able to post embroideries / printed fabric images or email some of these to you.

Helpful info may be gleaned here  http://aussieheroquilts.blogspot.com/2019/07/information-post-for-those-that-sew-for.html    I look forward to seeing the photos of completed quilts and LBs when they are ready to post off.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE copy the ENTIRE line if you wish to nominate for a quilt or laundry bag.

For example….

Marvel Theme. Ironman     M       LB      1

This is really important to make sure that neither you nor I copy the wrong number which could lead to me giving you the wrong details for specific request.  If you find it hard to copy and paste, please copy the line out as above.

Decoding The Columns

The first column is the theme or preferences requested.

The second column indicates the gender of the recipient.

The third column is as follows.

B=both quilt and laundry bag (feel free to nominate to JUST do the laundry bag if you wish)

Q= just a quilt

LB = just a laundry bag

F= female

M= male

Please let the Admin crew know if you have any other questions....Just email friendsofahq@gmail.com

Looking forward to seeing what you want to make this week. Happy stitching!

Cheers,

Jan-Maree

Grati-Tuesday 1st October 2024

Happy Tuesday Friends!

Welcome to the first blog for October!

We have some great messages and photos today, so grab a cuppa, sit back and relax while you soak up some well deserved gratitude.

Only 24 sleeps until the Thank You dinner.

Hope to see you there!

...

Good afternoon Joy H, Emma G and Aussie Hero Quilts,

I would like to thank you so very much for my amazing quilt and laundry bag, they are absolutely perfect and I love them. I have been using the quilt on the lounge in my down time to keep me warm whilst I cross stitch.

This is my first deployment since I joined the Navy in 2017 and I have loved every second of it. I am 37 years old. I am married and we have a 14 & 3 and a half year old daughter.

My husband is also in the Navy so I have had my fair share of experiencing what it is like to be away from each other for long periods of time.

The time and effort that you and all of the other volunteers does not go unnoticed. You are appreciated very much.

Kind regards,

A visit to HMAS Arunta but Christine C.

I wanted to share with you my recent experience meeting the recipient of my quilt I sent off recently.

My recipient is currently serving on the HMAS Arunta and on the weekend they were in Melbourne for couple of days. She had made contact with me prior to their visit to invite myself and family members to meet her and have a tour of the ship.

It was so wonderful to have the opportunity as the ship was not open to the public. We had a lovely morning.

She showed us the quilt I'd sent on her bed and I could see how much it meant to her and the joy AHQ stitchers give and what it means to recipients. I proudly wore my AHQ badge which some recognised.

Cheers

...
Hi Heather B,

Thankyou you so much for the quilt you made me - I love it! Many memories flood back…mostly good…and the challenging ones too. Lots of amazing experiences. A lot of time away from my family…my wife looked after our young family of 5 kids (now 6) for a year whilst I was in Pakistan! Time to settle, and we have found a beautiful place in North East Victoria.
Transitioning from Army is tougher than I thought. I’m optimistic. Did some training and had a go at acting (NCIS-Sydney) and in a feature film next month. No red carpet yet!
The quilt is folded away; have to do some prep on the place I’ll hang it in my home.
When I look at the quilt, it gives me a sense of pride in my service, and that I am very grateful to my wife and our kids for supporting me along the way.
Sorry it’s taken so much time to write you this note.

Kind regards

...

Just wanted to share with you guys an appreciation photo to the volunteers who made my quilt and laundry bag for me. I have been in hospital for 2 weeks and have another 2 weeks to go and it is nice to have these to brighten up my room and spirits. Thank you

This quilt was a joint effort. The quilt was made by Bridget but embroideries were contributed by Su J, Inge, Joan and Pennie. The laundry bag was made by Shirley D.

...

Good Evening Pennie T,

Thank you for the lovely quilt and the kind words, it truly means a lot to know that there are people such as yourself out there. I send my apologies for not responding sooner as I have unfortunately been very busy trying to get our ship back to sea for our upcoming deployment and have not had much time to myself.

I love the entire design of this quilt and even took it home to show my daughters as they both love pokemon, needless to say they both loved it.

I am glad your grandsons have had a lot of enjoyment admiring the original 151 cards and yes some of those cards are quite valuable today depending on their condition. A grade 10 Charzard first edition can fetch upwards of $12,000 at auction which is a lot of money for a small piece of cardboard.

I hope this email finds you well and I look forward to enjoying your quilt for years to come.

Kind Regards,

 ...

Dear Ruth

I would like to thank you for the laundry bag that you made and gifted to me for our 85 Transport Reunion in Darwin.

It is a lovely memento of our reunion and I appreciate the amount of work that has gone into it.

I have attached a photo of some of us when we received the laundry bag in Darwin.

Thanks again

 ...

Hi Melissa L!

You made me a laundry bag that had YTG 4X4 on it that ended up making its way around to a few states.

I’m so sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to you, life’s been crazy!

I was stoked to come back from my deployment to the amazing laundry bag that you made for me. I’ve shown anyone who will give me their attention and everyone has been so impressed. I can’t believe how you managed to incorporate every single thing I listed, and somehow make it flow so nicely together!

I really enjoyed hearing about your family and what makes you ‘tick’. I wish you the best of luck for your future as foster parents, what an impressive thing to commit yourselves to!

I’ve just returned from a 4 month deployment and my ship is now getting ready to go into a maintenance period for a few months before we start making preparations to head to sea for about 5 months in January. My laundry bag will be having a pretty cool adventure! I’m a Maritime Warfare Officer, so I drive the ship. I love my job, I love the travel I get to do, and I’m so grateful for people like you who make it just that bit easier for us to leave our loved ones.

Anyway, thanks again!

All the best,

 ...

Until next week keep your letters, emails and photos coming in.

Tuesday's would be so totally boring without them!
