Request List 21 July 25

Hi all,

Fourteen weeks til our Annual Thank You Weekend. Have you bought your tickets yet? There are six events in three days starting with a Tour of a Military Establishment on the Friday afternoon (free). We have a Volunteer’s Gathering on the Friday night ($25). Newbies who would like to meet myself and the admin team are welcome to join us and other newbies on Saturday morning for breakfast at The Rex Hotel. There is a bus tour for volunteers on Saturday which will take in three quilt shops ($40). Saturday night is the Dinner ($80) and then on Sunday we wrap up the weekend with brunch at Poppy’s Café – a last chance to swap contact details with other volunteers.

All tickets are available via Trybooking - https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1362453

Please contact me for the Volunteers’ booking code as that will make you eligible for the discount price for the tickets for the dinner. Most of our team stay at The Rex which is where the Friday and Saturday night functions and the Saturday morning breakfast are held. This is also where the bus starts and finishes. If you would like to the instructions for booking The Rex accommodations please let me know.

Now for this week’s request list.

PRIORITIES

As always, the requests are listed in priority order. There has been a big changeover of staff on deployments so we have lots of new requests from places in the Middle East. The first 7 are for folk on deployment overseas so obviously we would like to get these requests completed. Post can be so unreliable to some of our overseas locations so it can take a while to get parcels to them so the sooner they are in the mail the better. Numbers 8 and 9 are priority for a different reason. Please let me know if you can help.

All the rest of our requests are listed in priority order. Please let me know if you can help.

POST BY DATE

The post by date for all Requests on this list is 25 Aug 25 please, or earlier if you can manage this. If you cannot make that date, please let me know. Do reach out if you have any timing issues and we’ll resolve one way or the other. In fact, if you are going to be late posting it please let me know BEFORE you post it. Also, if this time frame is too tight for you, there are options, just email me to discuss, thank you.

Request Information

When selecting a request, remember, you do not have to include everything they have asked for. Footy quilts do not need to have the logo or even the team’s name. Using the team colours is all that is required. Simple is perfectly acceptable.  A number of these requests have given you favourite colours as well as footy teams or other hobbies and interests. It is fine to make a quilt using their favourite colours and include only one of their interests.  It is fine to keep it simple.

If there is more than one request on this list that you would be happy to do I suggest that you send me a list of requests and tell me how many you want to be allocated….i.e. one of the following please….There are always a few requests that everyone wants to do (and I can never pick them) so if the first one you ask for is taken then I can allocate another from your list if I have a list.

Any queries you might have, please don’t hesitate to contact via the AHQ email as per usual with any queries and we will assist you from there.  We may not know the answer, but it will be our pleasure to research and get back to you.

A reminder, when you are ready to post the quilt or laundry bag you’ve created, please use the PMKeyS number given to you in any correspondence with the admin team.  This helps the volunteer admin team keep a track of what’s been sent etc.  The PMKeyS number is included in the address details we supply for your recipient e.g.  the 7-digit number in bold below.

CPL Wanda Quilt 8765432

TG 3456

AFPO XX

ADF

Sydney NSW 2890

Also, please use the Aussie Heroes PO Box address on your parcel in the event the parcel is Returned to Sender -  the PO Box is a safe place in the event of  any mishaps with postage.

Aussie Hero Quilts (and Laundry Bags)

PO Box 248

Cherrybrook NSW 2126

Don’t forget to take a photo of your completed quilt or laundry bag to email to AHQ with the name and PMKeyS of the recipient and we can include in the Weekly Dispatches blog and add to the tally of quilts and laundry bags sent off to the troops.  I personally love viewing the photos of those projects dispatched – so inspiring.

If you are using a AHQ supplied prepaid satchel please kindly use the AHQ address for the return address– also for your own packaging – if a parcel is Returned to Sender it is likely we can expedite its journey to the recipient from Sydney.

Please also please hold on to the Tracking number (the pink sticker that you should remove before posting – we’ve experienced mail delays lately (haven’t we all?) and having the Tracking number is very reassuring to keep an eye on the parcel’s progress in arriving at its destination.

Don’t forget, if you look at today’s Request List and need help choosing, please feel free to get in touch to discuss, we will be ready to reply and offer guidance by email. Our goal is to help you find a request that you will be comfortable with doing. If you need a crest etc we may be able to post embroideries / printed fabric images or email some of these to you.

Helpful info may be gleaned here from Information For Those That Sew

I look forward to seeing the photos of completed quilts and LBs when they are ready to post off.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE copy the ENTIRE line if you wish to nominate for a quilt or laundry bag.

For example....

Marvel Theme. Ironman M LB 1
This is really important to make sure that neither you nor I copy the wrong number which could lead to me giving you the wrong details for specific request. If you find it hard to copy and paste, please copy or write the line out as above as:

Marvel Theme. Ironman   M   LB   1

Decoding The Columns:

The first column is the theme or preferences requested.

The second column indicates the gender of the recipient:

F = female

M = male

The third column is as follows:

B = both quilt and laundry bag (feel free to nominate to JUST do the laundry bag if you wish)

Q = just a quilt

LB = just a laundry bag

The fourth column is the number of the request.

Please let the Admin crew know if you have any other questions....Just email contactus@aussieheroquilts.org.au

Looking forward to seeing what you want to make this week. Happy stitching!

Cheers,

Jan-Maree

Grati-Tuesday 15th July 2025

Happy Tuesday Friends!

Another great group of awesome messages and photos this week so grab a cuppa, sit back and relax while you soak up some well-deserved gratitude!

AHQ Thank You Dinner is only 102 sleeps!
Don't forget to buy your tickets.

Dear Heather B,

I wanted to pass on my gratitude for the quilt I received at my farewell from the Australian Army recently.

After 34 years service, one comes to regard what we do as 'normal' and think nothing of it. I've enjoyed a long and unusual run in the Army. I have been fortunate to have met great people and been exposed to a plethora of positive experiences. Not everyone gets to do the things I've done or go to the places I've been. Whether the experience was good or not so good; it's all been for the best and I regret not one moment. I wouldn't change a thing. I'd do it all again.

It is not lost on me how many, such as your uncles, can carry a heavy burden from their time in the service of Australia. I am comforted knowing there remains a great many Australians such as you and the team at Aussie Hero Quilts who understand this and stand ready to provide simple, meaningful and very valued recognition of their service. Long may it be so.

I was delighted to read your letter and learn of your planned trip on 'The Ghan'. My wife (who sneakily coordinated the preparation of the quilt without my knowledge) and I were fortunate enough to complete the journey in November last year. I can commend it to you. We had a wonderful time, travelled through some great country I grew up in as a kid and met a lot of great people, including the parents of a young, newly minted Army Officer. I considered it a real privilege to fill in the gaps for them about what it was their daughter does as a young Engineer Officer in Darwin. I hope you and your husband enjoy the trip and find it as fulfilling as we did.

And if I could say a special thank you to you and your son-in-law for the Red Bull Racing Block. It was fascinating to read how you went about obtaining it. I am genuinely impressed. The reach of your 'network' is as impressive as that of any terrorist group we chased around Afghanistan!

Please find a photo attached of me (on the left) being presented with the quilt at my farewell in the Officers' Mess at the Royal Military College - Duntroon. A proud moment!

Thank you again and all the very best in your endeavours and the trip!

Yours sincerely,

   ***

Hi Clarissa L,

I just wanted to reach out and thank you for the gift. We genuinely appreciated the work that has gone into making the laundry bags, they are amazing and will 100% be travelling around Australia on our postie bikes.
Note from Editor - Laundry bags were made for 3 mates and veterans on a mission to ride 15,000 kms around Australia in October on postie bikes to raise awareness for veteran's mental health. If interested you can find them on Facebook and Instagram (search The Last Post)

Hi Bridget R,

I just wanted to say a big thank you for the Laundry Bag – it arrived safely as I was given it today, and I absolutely love it! This is my first ever laundry bag and I couldn’t be happier. It’s such a meaningful and thoughtful gift thank you for putting the effort in to make it.

A little about me – I am 25 years old and have been in the Navy for about seven years currently serving as a Communications Sailor. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving on HMAS Brisbane, Sydney, and now Warramunga. I’m also happily married – we’ve been married for two years, and she’s been my biggest supporter throughout my career. We have two cats Loki and Luna and they are amazing but hopefully next year we will have a son or daughter where we are planning to spend a fair bit of time in Melbourne.

Thank you again for your generosity and for the time and effort you put into making something so special. It truly means a lot to us serving members and all the other people who received one love them as well.

Warm Regards,

  ***

Dear Clarissa L,

My outstanding engineer laundry bag was just delivered in time for me to christen it on Exercise Talisman Sabre 25!

This is a project that a friend (and Jan-Maree – thank you too Mate!) hatched while we were freezing our backsides off in Marrangaroo earlier in the year. I was using a plastic bag for my laundry there!

I am very grateful for the work you did to produce this very special and practical item – something that will be used and appreciated often.

I am also continually impressed by the work that Jan-Maree and teams of people like you do for so many Defence personnel, we really are humbled and proud that you do what you do for us so kindly.

A big thank you to your Grand Daughter for helping you with the material selection and cord threading, and also to your Son for his service in RASigs.

I trust that you continue to enjoy doing this great work well into the future and that you and your entire Family stay safe and strong too.

Enjoy the gardening, be careful skiing and Go the Wallabies!

With gratitude and admiration for all you do

Good Afternoon Bridget R,

Thank you so very much for the quilt. I just received my quilt today and I found out it was done some time ago. Apologies for the late reply it has spent quite some time traveling from place to place to reach me.

I too have two children, alas they also live at home with my wife and I. My daughter who is six and my son who is three. Despite my constant prodding they have yet to get a job much to my wife’s disgust in my antics.

Please excuse my humour, I wish you all the best with your next Aussie Hero Quilt. Thank you once again it is much appreciated.

Yours Aye

***

Good Afternoon Jenny D,

I wanted to thank you very much for the Quilt, I absolutely love it, it is amazing, it would have taken you a while to make, and I really appreciate the effort and time that went into making something special for me.

Being a computer analyst would have been an awesome and rewarding job to have. You have an amazing family that seems to be growing and that is awesome.
Your passion for sewing is definitely noticed and showcasing your talent in exhibits is really cool and I hope you keep doing what makes you happy as they look absolutely amazing.

I am 25 years old, I have been in for 7 and a half years. I joined straight out of high school into the Army Gap year program and absolutely loved it.

I wanted to thank you again for the time and effort you put into making the quilt for me, and I hope you keep persuing your passion as it is awesome to see.

All the best with everything.

Kindest Regards,

  ***

Dear Sheena B,

I am emailing you on behalf of the Keith Payne Unit, here in Greens Slopes Private Hospital, Brisbane.

The veterans and the staff wish to thank you so much for your kind gift.  I had the pleasure to hand these out to our veterans.  The response and the smiles when receiving a laundry bag is priceless.  I’m so lucky to be the one to be apart of this.

We all wanted to say thank you.  Please know you are appreciated and the gift is being well received.

Kind regards
