Plans are afoot for this year's Thank You Weekend. The dates are locked in, some of the events are still to be confirmed but we are getting there.
Lock in 25 - 27 October 2024!!
This is the weekend you want to be in Canberra if you volunteer for Aussie Heroes, or if you are a recipient of one of our quilts or laundry bags.
The Rex Hotel
We will be based at The Rex again. You can enjoy a
10% discount on the best available rate for all rooms. Please note that rooms
cannot be held for this package, and rooms will be allocated on a first-come,
first-served basis based on availability. To make a booking, guests can contact The Rex via phone at 0262485311 or by emailing reservations@canberrarexhotel.com.au.
There are two options for booking. If you pay up front, with a non-refundable rate which will be cheaper, but if you are not comfortable with that then you can pay the standard rate and you will have a 24 hour cancelation policy and will need to pay on arrival. You will receive the 10% discount for both of the above.
I strongly suggest you book your room as soon as possible so you don't miss out.

Please be advised, the best available rates are dynamic in nature and and the rate does fluctuate depending on how occupancy shifts. In other words, if booking a King room today, it may not be the same rate for someone else if they book tomorrow or next month.
Each year we host six events over three days.
1. Friday Afternoon Australian War Memorial Tours
1300-1600
No charge but you will need to book when sales for this event open up in early April.
On the Friday afternoon you will have the option of a guided tour of the Australian War Memorial. At this stage we expect there to be 4 tours, each with a capacity for 15 people. The earliest tours will start at 1330 (130pm) and all of our tours will be completed by 1600 (4pm0 which will give you ample time to get back to the hotel and freshen up in time for the Friday night event.
There is no charge for this event but you still need to book in via Trybooking in order to make sure we have the details of the numbers. We have 60 slots at this stage and availability will be first in best dressed.
2. Friday Night Volunteers' Gathering
1830-2200
Ticket price and venue TBC
On Friday night we will have our very popular Volunteers' Gathering. We will have guest speakers, Lucky Door Prizes, and if you are REALLY well behaved, there will be goodie bags!
I have not locked in the speakers yet but I have some great options and just need to work out who the best choices are.
3. Saturday Morning Breakfast with Jan-Maree and Newbies
0900-1000
Pay on arrival. You will need to book when sales for this event open up in early April.
We will have a Newbies Breakfast at The Rex again so that new volunteers can meet each other as well as meeting me (Jan-Maree) and other admin volunteers, depending on who is available. This will be held at the Rex and needs to be paid for on arrival or it can be charged to your room. Again please book in so that we know what numbers are are expecting.
4. Saturday Bus Tour
1030-around 1520
Price to be confirmed and you will need to book when sales for this event open up in early April.
We are also planning another bus tour on the Saturday after Breakfast. This will include quilt shops and lunch and other locations but we are still locking the itinerary in. This year, we will also be locking in a bus with much easier access than the bus we were given last year. Details to be released as soon as we can. Cost for this will be around $50 but that will be confirmed before the tickets go on sale. Please bear with us.
5. Saturday Night - The Annual Thank You Dinner
1830-2200
Volunteers $80 All others $155
The main event of the weekend will be the Dinner on Saturday night. We will be back at The Rex again with auctions and a raffle. I already have some fabulous Auction and Raffle Items.
Tickets for this year are $80 for Volunteers and $155 for Recipients and supporters. These tickets are being subsidised by some of the donations we have received to keep the price as affordable as we possibly can.
Ticket includes a three course meal, a three hour bar service plus tea and coffee.
Of course your ticket also includes a wonderful night with terrific entertainment including our speakers and of course, the presence of our Mistress of Ceremonies, the one and only Pello!!
We will have some great fun with the Auctions, both live and silent, plus terrific prizes will be raffled.
6. Sunday Morning Breakfast at Poppy's Cafe at the AWM
0900-1130 ish
Pay as you order and you will need to book when sales for this event open up in early April.
As always, the weekend will culminate with breakfast at Poppy's on the Sunday morning, a last chance to swap numbers, emails and the like before everyone leaves Canberra and heads off home.

Just like last year, there will be one price for the volunteers ($80) and a separate price for non-volunteers ($155). A volunteers spouse or companion (one per volunteer please) is considered a volunteer for the purpose of ticket prices. We know that in many cases, the partners are also enablers, making it possible for our volunteers to keep sewing.
To avail yourself of the Volunteers' ticket price please contact Jan-Maree for the Booking Code. You need to enter the code and the price will be adjusted at the end of your transaction. Unfortunately you need to book each event separately until we have all events open and then you should be able to book all events at once.
