Don't forget to buy your tickets.

Presentation of a quilt and laundry bag.
The recipient was over the moon.
In his words "I Love them"

(quilt and laundry bag made by Leanne McD)

Recipient picked up his request during Friday Sewing Time at HQ AHQ

Dear Ms Ball, (Jan - Maree)

What a special surprise and gift of a magnificent quilt , you and the ladies, Bobbie S, Philomena H and Joan B, made for me. Please pass on my sincere gratitude to each of them and the Mystery BOMers.
Your kindness is unbelievable to have spent so much time and effort to make such a beautiful article.

The Headmaster of Brisbane Grammar School came to my 100th birthday celebration party last Thursday and presented it to me. I feel both humbled and honoured to receive such kindness. I know I will treasure it and so will my daughter. My wife was able to feel the quilting and imagine the beauty also. Thank you.

Best wishes and good health for the future-

sincerely

***

Good morning Bev F & Ruth S,

Just wanted to again extend my deepest gratitude for my laundry bag and quilt.

Meant a lot

Thanks and many kind regards.

***
Dear Kristie H,

Thank you so much for my wonderful laundry bag! I love that you have so many of the crests from so many of the squadrons I have been so privileged to fly with as well as the silhouette of my beloved
F/A-18 Hornet on the back. I will cherish this.

Thank you Kristie for giving so much joy to the ADF soldiers, sailors and aviators and please pass my thanks to you and your husbands siblings who have served our nation in uniform.

Best wishes to you and your family,

***
Hello Kerry B!

I was the fortunate recipients of your beautifully hand crafted Aussie Hero Quilt.

My quilt is draped over a small lounge that I have in my room and helps brighten the space wonderfully.  The weather here is still quite pleasant, but there are hints of it beginning to turn as we move towards Autumn, so I’m expecting my quilt to be well loved during the colder months until I am due to return home in late November.

Home is currently Canberra where my husband is holding the fort with our youngest daughter. Keeping them safe are our two little miniature Dachshunds – Kanko (7yr old male) and Murphy (2yr old female). Needless to say I miss them all terribly and, now that I have passed my half way point, am eager to return home to them.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to create my quilt.  It will be something I will cherish will be very dear to me.

Take care,

***

Good morning Ruth S,

I can’t thank you enough for your fine craftsmanship with the laundry bag you made, it is exceptional.

Thank you.

***

Dear Jan-Maree B,

Yesterday I was honoured to receive a magnificent quilt, made by you and embroidered by Joan B. To say I was left speechless is an understatement.
I actually wondered if I was really deserving of such a precious gift, but someone at my workplace put my name forward, which was very kind of them.

I want you to know receiving this quilt means a huge amount to me. I joined the Army in 1983, and have served in one form or
another ever since. I married an Infantry officer, and before we both
retired from the Army we had moved 13 times, worked in every kind of unit, including being posted overseas. This life demanded pretty much everything from me - especially when looking after people who needed care, so there was less time for everything else. Right from the beginning, our two daughters understood their parents had very demanding jobs, but they knew they were loved and they supported us and each other all the way through. It wasn’t an
easy life for them, but they have grown into wonderful, caring people.

As I now face some health issues, I am very appreciative of all the people around me who are caring for me. It is something I have had to get used to, as usually it is the other way around. Receiving this magnificent quilt feels very much like an act of love to me, and I am extremely grateful for it. As an optimist I strongly believe I’ll
get through this, even so, the kindness of others that makes a huge difference to how I feel every day.

Thank you very much for your kindness in making this quilt, I will treasure it for the rest of my life and always remember the women who wrapped me in it. Please pass this on to Joan so she knows how much this means to me.

Very best wishes,

***

Hey Heather B,

Thank you very much for the laundry bag, it has certainly brightened my day. It is perfect as I am a Newy boy and hence a Knights fan (much to my own dismay)! I imagine it was difficult for you making it as a Queenslander!

I very much appreciate your letter as well. I hope you enjoy your upcoming holidays, I have heard that The Ghan from Darwin to Adelaide is awesome.

I apologise that there is no picture, unfortunately I am unable to upload one onto here.

Kind regards and thanks again,

***

Dear Bel P,

Absolutely love the laundry bag. Can not wait until my next deployment to use it. Thank you so much.
Keep Well

 ***
Cheers Catherine D

Until next week keep your letters, emails and photos coming in.  Wednesdays would be so totally boring without them!

Request List 09 September 25

Hi all

Woo Hoo, only 6 weeks to go until we will be meeting in Canberra for our Annual Thank You Weekend. It promises to be a good weekend as always. For our newbies or those that have not attended before, we have a packed agenda or activities planned.

This dinner is open to everyone. If you have made one quilt or laundry bag or many, ALL ARE WELCOME.  Please come along and join the fun. You will not regret it.

Friday afternoon – you can enjoy a tour of the Australian Defence Force Academy. Please note this may start earlier than previous years,12 midday. This will be different from previous years with areas that I do not think you have seen before. There is no cost for this event.

Friday night – The Volunteers’ Gathering $25

All volunteers and partners welcome to gather at the Ballroom at The Rex hotel. Tea, coffee and water available. Eat your dinner before coming. We will have a number of guest speakers and special treats planned during the evening. We gather at 6.30pm but the formalities won't commence until 7pm.  These are always a great night to get to know other volunteers and to listen to some interesting speakers.

Saturday morning – breakfast at The Rex for Newbies to meet Jan-Maree and other Admin Team Members.  Cost of your breakfast.

Saturday Bus Trip – A bus leaves from the Rex at 10 and will visit three quilt shops during the day as well as taking in some of the Canberra scenery and sights depending on time (and energy levels).  Lunch is included.  Cost is heavily subsidised at $50.  This is a great chance to collect fabric and friends. (Note we have booked an easy access Bus)

Saturday night - The Dinner! Cost for Volunteers is $80.  Again, this is heavily subsidized.

The annual dinner provides an opportunity for our volunteers to meet recipients and other defence members as well as to fundraise to support the ongoing work of the organisation. The event will include a raffle as well as silent and live auctions of beautifully handcrafted quilts, artworks, and other great prizes as donated by our supporters. Please email for booking code to receive the Volunteer discount.

Sunday morning – Brunch at Poppy’s Café at the Australian War Memorial.  One last chance to swap contact details with other volunteers before we all head home back to our sewing machines.

If you haven’t bought your tickets yet or booked your accommodation you need to reach out to Jan-Maree.  Again, you need to email jan-maree@aussieheroquilts.com.au and ask for the Volunteers’ Discount Code for your dinner tickets as well as the instructions for booking your accommodation at The Rex.

Tickets available via Trybooking - https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1362453

DISPLAY ITEMS for Saturday night dinner

Calling our clever, crafty volunteers- would you like to make a quilt and/or laundry bag that you can bring to the dinner for display and then post off straight after the dinner?

Please notify us when you take on a request that you plan to bring it with you to Canberra for display.

This would not include 1-8 on this week’s request list for a display item for the dinner.

PRIORITIES

1-2 To get their quilts to them before they complete their deployment, we need to get them in the mail sooner rather than later.

3-10 Postage to this location can be unpredictable.

11-29 Are also on deployment.

30-31 Are priority for other reasons.

All the rest of our requests are listed in priority order. Please let me know if you can help.

POST BY DATE

The post by date for all Requests on this list is 14 Oct 25 please, or earlier if you can manage this.  If you cannot make that date, please let me know. Do reach out if you have any timing issues and we’ll resolve one way or the other. In fact, if you are going to be late posting it please let me know BEFORE you post it.  Also, if this time frame is too tight for you, there are options, just email me to discuss, thank you.

Request Information

When selecting a request, remember, you do not have to include everything they have asked for. Footy quilts do not need to have the logo or even the team’s name. Using the team colours is all that is required. Simple is perfectly acceptable.  A number of these requests have given you favourite colours as well as footy teams or other hobbies and interests. It is fine to make a quilt using their favourite colours but please include at least one of their interests.  It is fine to keep it simple.

If there is more than one request on this list that you would be happy to do I suggest that you send me a list of requests and tell me how many you want to be allocated….i.e. one of the following please….  There are always a few requests that everyone wants to do (and I can never pick them) so if the first one you ask for is taken then I can allocate another from your list if I have a list.

Any queries you might have, please don’t hesitate to contact via the AHQ email as per usual with any queries and we will assist you from there.  We may not know the answer, but it will be our pleasure to research and get back to you.

A reminder, when you are ready to post the quilt or laundry bag you’ve created, please use the PMKEYS number given you in any correspondence with the admin team.  This helps the volunteer admin team keep a track of what’s been sent etc.  The PMKEYS number is included in the address details we supply for your recipient e.g.  the 7-digit number in bold below.

CPL Wanda Quilt 8765432

TG 3456

AFPO XX

ADF

Sydney NSW 2890

Also, please use the Aussie Heroes PO Box address on your parcel in the event the parcel is Returned to Sender - the PO Box is a safe place in the event of any mishaps with postage.

Aussie Hero Quilts (and Laundry Bags)

PO Box 248,

Cherrybrook, NSW 2126

Don’t forget to take a photo of your completed quilt or laundry bag to email to AHQ with the name and PMKEYS of the recipient and we can include in the Weekly Dispatches blog and add to the tally of quilts and laundry bags sent off to the troops.  I personally love viewing the photos of those projects dispatched – so inspiring.

If you are using an AHQ supplied prepaid satchel please kindly use the AHQ address for the return address– also for your own packaging – if a parcel is Returned to Sender it is likely we can expedite its journey to the recipient from Sydney.

Please also please hold on to the Tracking number (the pink sticker that you should remove before posting – we’ve experienced mail delays lately (haven’t we all?) and having the Tracking number is very reassuring to keep an eye on the parcel’s progress in arriving at its destination.

Don’t forget, if you look at today’s Request List and need help choosing, please feel free to get in touch to discuss, we will be ready to reply and offer guidance by email. Our goal is to help you find a request that you will be comfortable with doing. If you need a crest etc we may be able to post embroideries / printed fabric images or email some of these to you.

Helpful info may be gleaned here  http://aussieheroquilts.blogspot.com/2019/07/information-post-for-those-that-sew-for.html    I look forward to seeing the photos of completed quilts and LBs when they are ready to post off.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE copy the ENTIRE line if you wish to nominate for a quilt or laundry bag.

For example….

Marvel Theme. Ironman     M       LB      1

This is really important to make sure that neither you nor I copy the wrong number which could lead to me giving you the wrong details for specific request.  If you find it hard to copy and paste, please copy the line out as above.

Decoding The Columns

The first column is the theme or preferences requested.

The second column indicates the gender of the recipient.

The third column is as follows.

Please let the Admin crew know if you have any other questions....Just email friendsofahq@gmail.com
