Hello there all you awesome volunteers.
We are still trying to adapt and cope with the restrictions that
COVID-19 has placed on us and Aussie Heroes is no different.
I know many of us are in one form of lockdown or another, whilst others
have to go to work in trying conditions, but regardless Aussie Heroes is going
to continue in whatever form we can.
LET
ME REITERATE, I DO NOT WANT TO ENCOURAGE ANYONE TO TAKE ANY UNNECESSARY
RISKS WHATSOEVER TO CONTINUE SEWING FOR US. I DON’T WANT THAT AND THE MEN AND
WOMEN WE SEEK TO SERVE DO NOT WANT THAT.
Doing something positive is good for your mental health. It
is also good for our sailors, soldiers, airmen and airwomen to know that we are
continuing to support them. The feedback
I am getting is that what we are doing is even more important to the troops now…
they need to know that we still think of them whilst they are over there. They are NOT out of sight and out of mind.

Laundry
bags –
Most of the requests are fairly simple. Mostly a badge or two, which I
can provide, with initials or nicknames. Depending on the length of the
nickname I will have it embroidered and sent to you. The crests mean a lot to the recipients and I
can send you a crest to include. I will
have one embroidered and sent to you if I can’t send one from here. I hope that
makes sense.
Quilts
–
I am trying something different with the requests
for quilts this week. Up to number 87 the requests are fairly simple. Most contain some sort of crest or
embroidered text which I can send to you. It is just like adding another patch
or block to your quilt.
Some are team-based requests and really just need
the colours, maybe with a service crest added.
There are themes like Frozen, dogs, dancing etc.
Most themes can be managed by a silhouette if you don’t have the specific fabric.
Ask me if you are not sure.
A couple of requests want a wagon wheel design. It
is easy, just ask me to email the picture to you.
Your quilts can be simple squares or strips but
please do not resort to quilting one large piece of fabric as a topper. If
there is one thing we will mostly have in abundance over the next few weeks it
is going to be time, so blocks and strips or other pieced designs are the order
of the day please.
Requests from 87 onwards are for those that really
like to get their teeth into a request.
The post by date for all items on this list is 11 May please. If you
cannot make that date please let me know.
PLEASE note the date and let me know if you have any problems getting
your quilt/LB away on time. In fact, if you are going to be late posting it
please let me know BEFORE you post it. Also, if this time frame is too
tight for you, there are options, just email me to discuss.
IF
YOU CANNOT GET TO THE POST OFFICE
If you cannot get to the Post Office and do not have someone who can go
for you, then I still encourage you to keep sewing. You never know,
there may be someone in your area who can pick up your mail from your front
door (no contact) and deliver it to the PO for you. We can at least try
that. LET ME KNOW

This is really important to make sure that neither you nor I copy the
wrong number which could lead to me giving you the wrong details for specific
request. If you find it hard to copy and paste, please copy the line
out as follows…
The first column is the theme or preferences requested.
The second column indicates the gender of the recipient.
The third column is as follows.
B=both quilt and laundry bag (feel free to nominate to JUST do the
laundry bag if you wish)
Q= just a quilt
LB = just a laundry bag
F= female
M= male

If you have an embroidery machine you can do your own or you can request one be

This is a special
request… for this quilt I need twelve 15 inch scrappy log cabin blocks in a
mixture of whites, off-white and creams.
The fabrics need to be tone on tone, plains or can be prints with a
small amount of pale neutrals - greys, beiges etc. No other colours please. The blocks need to
be very neutral or low volume.
If you would like to
make one or more of these blocks please let me know.
